Parking Brake Assembly: Reassembly
Reassembly is in the reverse order of DISASSEMBLY . However, only installation procedures requiring additional information are included.
NOTE:
Apply high temperature grease and lithium soap base glycol grease to the parts indicated by the arrows (see PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY
).
- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
- Disconnect the parking brake cable from the bell crank.
- Remove the bell crank spring.
- Loosen the bell crank adjusting bolt.
- Temporarily install the 3 hub nuts.
- Remove the hole plug.
- Turn the adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.
- Return the adjuster 8 notches.
- Install the hole plug.
- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE BELL CRANK
- Pull the bell crank until all play in the interior linkage is taken up.
- Screw in the bell crank adjusting bolt to where it contacts on the dust seal.
- Loosen it one turn, and lock it at that position with the lock nut.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
- Install the bell crank spring.
- Connect the parking brake cable.
- Remove the 3 hub nuts.
- SETTLE PARKING BRAKE SHOE AND REAR DISC
- Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level and dry road.
- With the parking brake release button pushed in, pull on the lever with 88 N (9 kgf, 19.8 lbf) of force.
- Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 miles) in this condition.
- Repeat this procedures 2 or 3 times.

- ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION )
