Inspection Procedure

  1. INSPECT CLOCK ASSY (TAU, TAUB, SPD) 
    1. Remove the clock assy with the connector still connected.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between terminal 9 (TAUB) of the clock assy connector and body ground.

      Standard: 10 to 14 V 

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage between terminal 7 (TAU) of the clock assy connector and body ground.

      Standard: 10 to 14 V

    6. Connect the oscilloscope to terminals 1 (GND) and 7 (TAU) of the clock assy connector.
    7. Start the engine.
    8. Check the signal wave form (TAU signal).
      CLOCK ASSY - REFERENCE TABLE

      Item Condition
      Tool setting 10 V/DIV, 100 ms/DV
      Vehicle condition Engine idle speed

    9. Jack up either of the front wheels.
    10. Shift the shift lever to neutral.
    11. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    12. Measure the voltage between terminal 15 (SPD) of the clock assy and body ground when the front wheel is turned slowly.

      OK: 

      Voltage is generated intermittently.

    Result: 

    CLOCK ASSY - REFERENCE TABLE

    OK A
    TAU signal: NG B
    TAUB signal: NG C
    SPD signal: NG D

    B: GO TO FUEL SYSTEM (See  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  (2AZ-FE),  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  (2AZ-FE(PZEV)),  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING  (1MZ-FE/3MZ-FE)) 

    C: Go to step 2 

    D: Go to step 3 

    A: REPLACE CLOCK ASSY (See step 4 on  REPLACEMENT  ) 

  2. INSPECT FUSE (IGN) 
    1. Check that continuity exists in the IGN fuse.

      NG: REPLACE FUSE 

      OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  3. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the combination meter assy with the connectors still connected.
    2. Jack up either of the front wheels.
    3. Shift the shift lever to neutral.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    5. Measure the voltage between terminal C7-36 of the combination meter assy and body ground when the front wheel is turned slowly.

      OK: 

      Voltage is generated intermittently.

    NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
