Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the ABS & TRACTION actuator assy, perform zero point calibration (see CALIBRATION ).

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step 2 when not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (ABS MOTOR RELAY OPERATION) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the operation sound of the ABS motor individually when operating it with the hand-held tester.
    DATA LIST

    Item Vehicle Condition / Test Details Diagnostic Note
    ABS MOT RELAY ABS motor relay / ON or OFF Operation of motor (clicking sound) can be heard

    OK: The operation sound of the ABS motor should be heard. 

    NG: Go to step 2 

    OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 

  2. INSPECT FUSE (ABS NO.2 FUSE) 
    1. Remove the ABS No.2 fuse from the engine room R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    CONTINUITY

    ABS No.2 fuse Below 1 Ω (Continuity)

    NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESS AND CONNECTOR CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. CHECK TERMINAL VOLTAGE (ABS CUT RELAY 5 TERMINAL OF ABS R/B) 
    1. Remove the ABS cut relay from the ABS R/B.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (1 OF 6)

    Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
    Terminal 5 - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. INSPECT ABS CUT RELAY 
    1. Remove the ABS cut relay.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (2 OF 6)

    Tester Connection Connection Specified resistance
    3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher (No continuity)
    3 - 5 Apply B+ between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE ABS CUT RELAY

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. INSPECT ABS R/B (ABS MOTOR RELAY - ABS CUT RELAY) 
    1. Remove the ABS motor relay and ABS cut relay from the ABS R/B.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (3 OF 6)

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    5 (ABS motor relay) - 3 (ABS cut relay) Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE ABS R/B 

    OK: Go to next step.

  6. INSPECT ABS MOTOR RELAY 
    1. Remove the ABS motor relay.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (4 OF 6)

    Tester Connection Connection Specified resistance
    3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher (No continuity)
    3 - 5 Apply B+ between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE ABS MOTOR RELAY

    OK: Go to next step. 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ABS MOTOR RELAY - SKID CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and ABS motor relay.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (5 OF 6)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-2 (BM) - ABS motor relay 3 (ABS R/B) Below 1 Ω
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (6 OF 6)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S1-2 (BM) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: REPLACE ABS & TRACTION ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  )
