Inspection Procedure

NOTE:
In case of using the hand-held tester, start the inspection from step 1 and in case of not using hand-held tester, start from step 2.
- Connect OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester, and check stop light switch signal
PREPARATION:
- Warm up the engine.
- Turn the ignition switch off.
- Connect the OBD II scan tool or hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Push the "ON" button of the OBD II scan tool or the hand-held tester.
- Select the item "DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST".
- According to the display on tester, read the "DATA LIST".
CHECK:
Read the stop light switch signal.
OK:
- OK: Check for intermittent problem ( HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
- NG : Go to next step
- Check stop light switch (See
INSPECTION
).
- NG: Replace stop light switch.
- OK: Go to next step
- Check harness and connector between ECM and stop light switch.
PREPARATION:
Connect the stop lamp switch assy connector.
CHECK:
Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the brake pedal is depressed and released.
OK:
ECM AND STOP LIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONCondition Tester Connection Specified Condition Brake pedal is depressed E5-19(STP)-Body ground 10 to 14 V Brake pedal is released E5-19(STP)-Body ground Below 1 V - NG: Repair or replace the harness or connector ( HOW TO USE THE DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE ).
- OK: Replace the ECM.
