Lower Ball Joint ASSY Front LH: Replacement

HINT:

• COMPONENTS: See COMPONENTS 
• Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
• The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
2. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB LH NUT (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

   SST 09930-00010

3. DISCONNECT SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
4. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
5. REMOVE FRONT DISC (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
6. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSY LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 

   SST 09628-62011

7. DISCONNECT FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSY LOWER NO.1 LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
8. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSY LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
9. REMOVE LOWER BALL JOINT ASSY FRONT LH 
   1. Remove the cotter pin and castle nut.
   2. Using SST, remove the lower ball joint assy front LH

10. INSPECT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSY FRONT LH 
    1. Secure the lower ball joint assy front LH in a vise.
    2. Install the nut to the stud bolt.
    3. Flip the ball joint back and forth 5 times or more.
    4. Use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per 1 turn. Take the torque reading on the 5th turn.

       Turning torque: 

       0.98 to 3.43 N.m (10 to 35 kgf.cm, 8.7 to 30 in.lbf) 

       If the value is not within the specification, replace the lower ball joint assy with a new one.

11. INSTALL LOWER BALL JOINT ASSY FRONT LH 
    1. Install the lower ball joint assy front LH to the steering knuckle with the castle nut.

       Torque: 123 N.m (1,250 kgf.cm, 91 ft.lbf) 

    2. Install a new cotter pin to the steering knuckle.
       NOTE: Further tighten the nut up to 60° if the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned.
12. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSY LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
13. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSY LOWER NO.1 LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
14. INSTALL TIE ROD ASSY LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
15. INSTALL FRONT DISC (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
16. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSY LH (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
17. INSTALL SPEED SENSOR FRONT LH (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
18. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB LH NUT (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
19. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf) 

20. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT (SEE  ADJUSTMENT  ) 
21. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL 

    w/VSC (SEE  DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ) 

    w/o VSC (SEE  DTC CHECK/CLEAR  )
