Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota Tundra and 2005 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When replacing the master cylinder solenoid, perform zero point CALIBRATION  .

HINT:

  1. Check CAN communication system. 

    CHECK: 

    Check CAN communication system DTC (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

    RESULT: 

    DTC OUTPUT RESULT

    DTC is not output A
    DTC is output B
    1. B: Repair CAN communication system according to the output code (See  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART  ). 
    2. A: Go to next step. 
  2. Check steering angle sensor operation. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Select DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
    DATA LIST REFERENCE

    Right turn: Decrease
    -

    CHECK: 

    Check that the steering wheel turning angle value of the steering angle sensor displayed on the hand-held tester changes when turning the steering wheel.

    OK: 

    Steering angle value changes. 

    1. NG: Go to step   4 . 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. Reconfirm DTC (See  DTC CHECK / CLEAR   ). 

    PREPARATION: 

    Clear the DTCs.

    CHECK: 

    Check if the same DTCs are detected.

    RESULT: 

    DTC OUTPUT RESULT

    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B
    1. B: END. 
    2. Replace master cylinder solenoid (See  DISASSEMBLY  ). 
  4. Measure voltage of the steering angle sensor. 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the column lower cover.

    CHECK: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. Measure the voltage between terminals 1 and 2, 9 and 2 of the harness side connector.

    OK: 

    STEERING ANGLE SENSOR VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
    Terminals 1 - 2 IG switch ON 10 to 14V
    Terminals 9 - 2 IG switch ON 10 to 14V

    CHECK: 

    Measure the resistance between terminal 2 and body ground.

    OK: 

    TERMINAL 2 AND BODY GROUND RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
    Terminal 2 - Body ground Always Below 1Ω
    1. NG: Check and replace harness and connector. 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  5. Replace  STEERING ANGLE SENSOR  . 
    1. NEXT: Go to next step. 
  6. Reconfirm DTC (See  DTC CHECK / CLEAR   ). 

    PREPARATION: 

    Clear the DTCs.

    CHECK: 

    Check if the same DTCs are detected.

    HINT:

    Drive the vehicle at more than 13 mph (20 km/h) for more than 60 seconds.

    RESULT: 

    DTC OUTPUT RESULT

    DTC is output A
    DTC is not output B
    1. B: END. 
    2. A: Replace master cylinder solenoid (See  DISASSEMBLY  ).
