Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

NOTE: The installation is in the reverse order of the removal. However, when there is a special point concerning the installation, it is indicated.

TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT
NOTE: Indicate the bolts, screws and nuts are indicated by alphabets in Fig 1 and the test, which are necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel.

SEPARATE BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (See DISABLING SYSTEM )
PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE )
REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See step 6 under OVERHAUL )
REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LWR (See step 7 under OVERHAUL )
REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPR
REMOVE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSY (See step 3 under REPLACEMENT )
REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY (See WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSY )
REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER
1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 8 clips.

2. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assy center.
NOTE: Set the shift lever into the N range.
REMOVE RADIO BRACKET NO. 1 & NO. 2
1. Remove the 6 bolts < and radio bracket No. 1 & No. 2 together with the radio receiver.

REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER
1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 5 clips.

2. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the instrument panel finish panel lower.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSY
1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 5 clips, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel assy.

REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL GARNISH
1. Remove the 4 screws

2. Disengage the claws, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel garnish.
REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY
1. Remove the 3 screws , then pull the combination meter assy.

2. Disconnect the 2 connectors, then remove the combination meter assy.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER
1. Remove the 2 bolts < D >.

2. Disengage the 3 clips.
3. Remove the connector.
4. Disconnect the hood lock control cable, then remove the instrument panel finish panel sub-assy lower.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PNL INSERT SUB-ASSY LWR LH
1. Remove the 2 bolts < C > and instrument panel insert sub-assy LWR LH.

REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL ASSY CENTER
1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 4 clips.

2. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel assy center.
NOTE: Set the shift lever into the N range.
REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER RH
1. Remove the 2 clips and floor carpet cover center RH.

REMOVE FLOOR CARPET COVER CENTER LH
REMOVE FRONT SEAT ARMREST ASSY CENTER (W/ CENTER CONSOLE BOX)
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the front seat armrest cover.

  NOTE: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
2. Remove the bolt and front seat armrest assy center.
REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY (W/ CENTER CONSOLE BOX)
1. Apply protective tape to the console box assy, as shown in Fig 13.

2. Remove the 3 screws .
3. Remove the console caps and 2 screws < H >.
4. Remove the 2 bolts < F >.
5. Pull the console box assy and disengage the 2 clips, then remove the console box assy.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER CENTER (W/O CENTER CONSOLE BOX)
1. Remove the 3 screws .

2. Disengage the 2 clips then remove the instrument panel finish panel lower center.
REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSY
1. Remove the glove compartment door damper clip.

2. Remove the 2 pins and glove compartment door assy.

1. Remove the 7 screws and instrument panel finish panel lower No. 2.

SEPARATE PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR
REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH
1. Disengage the claw and 2 clips, then remove the front pillar garnish RH.

1. Disengage the 8 claws, then remove the front door scuff plate RH.

REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY RH
1. Remove the clip.

2. Disengage the 2 clips, then remove the cowl side trim sub-assy RH.
REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSY LH
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
1. Remove the 7 bolts < C > < E > < F > and nut .

2. Disconnect the connectors.
3. Disengage the 3 pins, then remove the instrument panel safety pad sub-assy.

REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL GARNISH NO. 2
1. Disengage the 4 clips, then remove the instrument cluster finish panel garnish No. 2.
REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR
1. Disconnect the connector.

2. Remove the automatic light control sensor.
REMOVE COOLER (SOLAR SENSOR) THERMISTOR

2. Remove the cooler (solar sensor) thermistor.
NOTE: Do not pry the cooler (solar sensor) thermistor off from the upper position.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PIN NO. 1
1. Remove the 3 screws and 3 instrument panel pin No. 1.
REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY
1. Remove the 7 screws < A > and defroster nozzle assy.
REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO. 1
1. Remove the screw < A > and defroster nozzle duct No. 1.
REMOVE SIDE DEFROSTER NOZZLE DUCT NO. 2
1. Remove the screw < A > and the side defroster nozzle duct No. 2.
REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 1
1. Remove the clip.
2. Remove the screw < A > and the side defroster nozzle duct No. 2.
REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 4
1. Remove the clip.
2. Remove the 3 screws < A > and the heater to register duct No. 4.
REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER CENTER SUB DUCT
1. Remove the 4 screws < A > and the heater to register center sub duct.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY LOWER NO. 1
1. Remove the 2 screws < A > and instrument panel register assy lower No. 1.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO. 1
1. Remove the 2 screws < A > and instrument panel register assy No. 1.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACKET SUB-ASSY CENTER
1. Remove the 3 screws < A > and instrument panel bracket sub-assy center.
REMOVE AIR BAG PASSENGER MOUNTING BRACKET NO. 1
1. Remove the nut < H > and air bag passenger mounting bracket No. 1.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT FINISH PANEL RETAINER LOWER NO. 2
1. Remove the nut < H > and instrument finish panel retainer lower No. 2.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL RETAINER LOWER NO. 3
1. Remove the 2 screws < A > and instrument panel finish panel retainer lower No. 3.
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
1. Remove the 2 nuts and instrument panel passenger air bag assy.
INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY
1. Install the instrument panel passenger air bag assy with the 2 nuts < J >.
 Torque:
 
 Nut : 5.6 N.m (57 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)
INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY
1. Install instrument panel safety pad sub-assy with the bolts < C > < E > < F > and nut .

 Torque:
 
 Bolt < F >: 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)
INSTALL FRONT SEAT ARMREST ASSY CENTER
1. Install the front seat armrest assy center with the bolt.
  Torque: 37 N.m (378 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)
INSTALL CENTER SPIRAL CABLE (See step 46 under OVERHAUL )
INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See step 47 under OVERHAUL )
ADJUST STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY
INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY
INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
