"D" Range Test in NORM Or PWR Pattern Ranges

- Move gearshift lever to "D" position. Hold accelerator at constant full throttle position. Check 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshift points. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . If upshift points are not as specified, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Use procedure outlined in step 1 to check harsh engagement between 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts. If harsh engagement is present during upshifts, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Operate vehicle in 4th gear or TCC lock-up in "D" range. Check for abnormal noise and vibration. Noise and vibration may be caused by unbalanced drive shaft, differential, torque converter or other drive train components.
- Operate vehicle in "D" range. With transmission in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear, check for correct kickdown speed during 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 forced downshifts. Check for harsh engagement at during kickdown.
- Check TCC lock-up operation. Test drive vehicle in 4th gear of "D" range. Maintain steady speed (TCC lock-up ON) of 43 MPH. Lightly depress accelerator pedal. Ensure engine RPM does not change abruptly. Large increase in engine RPM indicates there is no TCC lock-up. See LOCK-UP SPEED SPECIFICATIONS .
