O/D Main Switch: Tacoma
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2002 Toyota Tundra, 2002 Toyota Tacoma, 2002 Toyota Sequoia, 2002 Toyota 4Runner, and 2001 Toyota Tundra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check operation of O/D main switch. Turn ignition on. Depress O/D main switch to ON position. O/D OFF indicator on instrument panel will illuminate. Press O/D main switch again (OFF position). O/D OFF indicator will go off. If indicator does not operate correctly, inspect or repair instrument cluster as needed. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If instrument cluster circuits and indicator bulb is okay, go to next step. If indicator operates correctly and you were directed here for a 3-4 or 4-3 shift concern, perform OVERDRIVE CANCEL SIGNAL test. If indicator operates correctly and you were directed here for any other concern, substitute with known good ECM and retest.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect O/D main switch 10-pin connector. Check continuity between O/D main switch connector terminals No. 5 and 10. See Figure. Continuity should exist with O/D main switch depressed, and should not exist with O/D main switch released. If continuity is not as specified, replace O/D main switch. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Access ECM. See Figure and Figure . Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between ground and specified ECM connector ODMS terminal. See Figure and Figure . Voltage should be less than one volt with O/D main switch depressed, and 10-14 volts with O/D main switch released. If voltage is as specified, replace ECM and retest. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect appropriate ECM connector. See Figure and Figure . Using DVOM, measure voltage by backprobing between ground and specified ECM connector ODLP terminal. If voltage is 7.5-14 volts, replace ECM and retest. If voltage is not 7.5-14 volts, inspect and repair circuit between instrument cluster and ECM, O/D main switch and ECM, or O/D main switch and ground.
