Automatic transmission parking indicator light will illuminate to warn driver that transmission and drive shaft are not locked. Drive shaft and wheels are free even when transmission gearshift lever is in Park, as long as transfer shift lever is in Neutral. If indicator light is on, transfer shift lever should be shifted to position other than Neutral. If indicator light is still on, check following components for malfunction:
- Park/Neutral Position Switch. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH under COMPONENT TESTS.
- Transfer Neutral Position Switch. Switch is located on transfer case rear extension housing. Disconnect switch connector. Remove switch from rear housing. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between switch terminals. Replace switch if continuity does not exist.
- Combination Meter. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
