Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Lexus LS 430. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check shift solenoid valve No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 operation. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Remove the oil pan.
    2. Remove the shift solenoid valve No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3.

    CHECK: 

    Shaft solenoid valve No. 2: 

    1. Applying 490 kPa (5 kgf/cm2 , 71 psi) of compressed air, check that the solenoid valves do not leak air.
    2. When battery positive voltage is supplied to the shift solenoid valves, check that the solenoid valves are open.

    Shift solenoid valve No. 1 and No. 3: 

    Connect the positive (+) lead with 8 - 10 W bulb to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, then check the movement of the valve.

    OK:

    1. NG : Replace the shift solenoid valve No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 (See  VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY  ). 
    2. OK : Go to next step. 
  2. Check valve body (See  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ). 
    1. NG : Repair or replace the valve body (See  VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY  ). 
    2. OK : Replace the transmission (See  REMOVAL  ).
