Seat Heater Switch

  1. On models with floor-mounted shift lever, use a screwdriver with tape applied to end to release clips and remove upper rear console panel. Remove front ashtray without pulling on ashtray door. Remove 2 screws and upper console panel. Remove cup holder. Remove 2 screws and 3 bolts and rear console box. Disconnect electrical harness connector. Remove console box hole cover. Remove 4 bolts and remove radio assembly with A/C-heater control panel. Disconnect electrical harness connectors and remove control panel and radio as an assembly. Separate A/C-heater control panel assembly from radio. See Fig 1.
  2. On models with column-mounted shift lever, use a screwdriver with tape applied to end to release clips and remove lower A/C-heater control panel cover. Remove 4 screws and 2 clips from A/C-heater control finish panel. Remove finish panel and disconnect electrical harness connectors. Remove 4 screws and ashtray. Remove 4 bolts and remove A/C-heater control panel and radio as an assembly. Separate A/C-heater control panel assembly from radio. See Fig 1.
  3. On all models, to test driver seat heater switch, connect positive battery lead to A/C-heater control panel 26-pin connector A15 terminals No. 1 and 2. Connect negative battery lead to terminals No. 24 and 25. See Fig 2. Connect another positive battery lead to A/C-heater control panel 26-pin connector A15 terminal No. 12 through a 1.4 watt test bulb.
  4. Turn driver seat heater switch on. If test bulb and driver seat heater switch indicator light illuminate, check driver seat heater element continuity. See SEAT HEATER ELEMENTS . If test bulb and driver seat heater switch indicator light do not illuminate, check ignition No. 1 relay. See IGNITION NO. 1 RELAY .
  5. To test passenger seat heater switch, connect positive battery lead to A/C-heater control panel 26-pin connector A15 terminals No. 1 and 2. Connect negative battery lead to terminals No. 24 and 26. See Fig 3. Connect another positive battery lead to A/C-heater control panel 26-pin connector A15 terminal No. 13 through a 1.4 watt test bulb.
  6. Turn passenger seat heater switch on. If test bulb and passenger seat heater switch indicator light illuminate, check driver seat heater element continuity. See SEAT HEATER ELEMENTS . If test bulb and passenger seat heater switch indicator light does not illuminate, check ignition No. 1 relay. See IGNITION NO. 1 RELAY . If ignition No. 1 relay checks okay, replace defective switch.
