Oil Pump: Inspection

  1. Inspect components for damage. Ensure relief valve slides freely in bore. Install drive shaft and driven gear in oil pump body.
  2. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between driven gear and oil pump body. Replace driven gear or oil pump assembly if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  3. Measure driven gear-to-drive shaft gear backlash between teeth on each gear. Replace driven gear and shaft if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  4. Place straightedge across oil pump body, above both gears. Measure gear end clearance between straightedge and surface of each gear. Replace shaft and driven gear if clearance exceeds specification. See OIL PUMP SPECIFICATIONS  table.
