Exhaust Manifold: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain cooling system. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold. Disconnect cruise control cable, accelerator cable and throttle cable (auto. trans.). Disconnect ground strap at rear of engine.
- Remove air cleaner hose with intake air connector tube (nearest fender panel). Disconnect cruise control vacuum hose and charcoal canister hose. Remove heater and radiator inlet hoses. Disconnect PCV hose. Remove alternator belt, alternator and adjusting bracket.
- Remove PCV tubing. Disconnect electrical connectors from cold start injector, throttle position sensor and Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve. Disconnect bimetallic vacuum switching valve and EGR hoses from throttle body. Disconnect vacuum tube hose from air intake chamber. Disconnect fuel pressure regulator hose. Disconnect vacuum switching valve hoses. Disconnect diaphragm hose.
- Disconnect coolant by-pass hoses from ISC valve and from throttle body. Remove EGR tube mounting bolts. Remove manifold support mounting bolt. Remove throttle body bracket. Remove air intake connector bracket mounting bolts.
- Remove cold start injector tube. Remove EGR vacuum modulator from mounting bracket. Disconnect wiring harness from routing clamps on air intake chamber. Remove retaining nuts/bolts from air intake chamber.
- Remove vacuum transmitting pipes and air intake chamber with connector and gasket as an assembly. Identify and disconnect all necessary wiring. Separate wiring from routing clamps.
- Remove pulsation damper and No. 1 fuel supply line. Disconnect fuel hose from No. 3 fuel supply line. Remove mounting bolt, union bolt, No. 3 fuel supply line and gaskets. Mark and remove spark plug cables and distributor. Remove oil dipstick. Remove exhaust manifold and gasket.
