Cylinder Block Service
- Using a feeler gauge and straightedge, inspect cylinder block deck surface for warpage. Maximum warpage is .002" (.05 mm). If warpage is greater than maximum, replace cylinder block.
- Measure cylinder bore out-of-round and taper. See CYLINDER BLOCK SPECIFICATIONS table. If either out-of-round or taper exceeds service limit, rebore all cylinders for oversize pistons.
- There are 5 different standard cylinder diameters, marked "0", "1", "2", "3", "4" located on left side of block near each cylinder bore and on oil pan gasket surface between cylinders No. 4 and 5. See Figure and CYLINDER BLOCK SPECIFICATIONS table.
- If cylinder bore is okay, hone cylinder to obtain a 60-degree crosshatch pattern. After honing, wash cylinder bore with hot soapy water. Air dry cylinder bore and apply engine oil to prevent rusting.
