Pinion Seal Replacement (On Vehicle): Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Apply grease to seal lip and install to proper depth. See PINION SEAL DEPTH . Apply grease to seal lip. Install pinion flange. Install new nut after lightly greasing threads. Check and adjust pinion preload. See PINION BEARING PRELOAD  and TOTAL STARTING PRELOAD SPECIFICATIONS  in this article.
  2. If preload is insufficient, gradually tighten nut in small increments, until preload is obtained. If preload is exceeded, replace collapsible spacer. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
