Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, review and record FAILURE RECORDS data. Clear DTCs. Start engine and operate vehicle within FAILURE RECORDS data conditions. If scan tool indicates that DTC P0443 RAN AND PASSED, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If scan tool does not indicate DTC P0443 RAN AND PASSED, go to next step.
  3. Turn engine off. Disconnect EVAP canister purge control valve 2-pin harness connector. EVAP canister purge control valve is located at right rear of engine, on rear of intake manifold. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and EVAP canister purge control solenoid valve harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If battery voltage exists, leave harness connector disconnected and go to step  5 . If battery voltage does not exist, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
  4. Check for an open, short to ground or short to voltage in Black/Yellow wire (ignition voltage circuit) Also check CB-12 ENGINE IG (15-amp) fuse. Fuse is located in dash fuse box. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between EVAP canister purge control solenoid pins No. 1 and 2 (component side). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is more than specified, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Blue 32-pin harness connector C-3. PCM is located under center console in front of shifter. Check for open, short to ground or short to voltage in Red/Blue wire between PCM and EVAP canister purge control solenoid. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace EVAP canister purge control valve solenoid. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  8. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
