Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo Sport and 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC II SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing OBD-II system check, go to next step.
  2. NOTE: Diagnose any DTCs set (except for DTCs P1133 or P1134), before proceeding.
  3. Start engine and allow it to reach operating temperature. Operate vehicle within CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . Using scan tool, monitor specified DTC parameters. If scan tool displays DTC P0133 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P0133 FAILED THIS IGN, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  4. If scan tool also displays DTC P1133 and/or P1134 FAILED THIS IGN, go to step  8 . If scan tool does not display these DTCs, go to next step.
  5. Visually inspect exhaust system for leaks near Bank 1 HO2S No.1. If leaks are found, repair as necessary and return to step  2 . If no leaks are found, go to next step.
  6. Visually inspect Bank 1 HO2S-1 for secure installation. Check for corrosion on terminals. Check terminal tension at HO2S and PCM. Check for damaged wiring or wiring harness. If any problems were found, go to step  9 . If no problem was found, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect Bank 1 HO2S-1 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire). See Figure . Measure voltage between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 2 (White wire). Voltage should be 3-4 volts at both measurements. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, leave harness connector disconnected and go to step  10 .
  8. Connect a jumper wire between ground and Bank 1 HO2S-1 harness connector terminal No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (White wire). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe Bank 1 HO2S-1 voltage parameter. If voltage parameter is less than 10 mV and immediately returns to 450 mV when jumper wire is removed, go to step  12 . If voltage parameter is not as specified, go to step  13 .
  9. Replace Bank 1 HO2S-1. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  10. Repair condition or replace as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  11. Check for poor or loose terminal connections in PCM harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  12. Repair open, short or grounded Bank 1 HO2S-1 signal circuit. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no problem is found, go to next step.
  13. Replace Bank 1 HO2S-1. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  14. Replace and reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  under POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE. After repair is complete, see VERIFYING VEHICLE REPAIR  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
