Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Suzuki Esteem. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If engine system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine system check has not been performed, go to A4: ENGINE SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
- Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off, connect scan tool and turn ignition on. Backprobing at ECM, measure voltage between ground and ECM connector C20 terminal No. 7 (Light Green/Black wire). See Figure . Voltage reading should be 10 volts or more. Start engine and allow it to idle. One minute after engine start, voltage reading should be less than 1.9 volts. If voltage readings are not as specified, go to next step. If voltage readings are as specified, problem is probably intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HO2S No. 2 4-pin harness connector. Check for poor terminal contact at HO2S No. 2 connectors. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between HO2S No. 2 pigtail terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Black wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). Resistance should be 11.7-14.3 ohms at about 68°F (20°C). If resistance is as specified, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace HO2S No. 2. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM 16-pin harness connector C20. ECM is located under instrument panel, behind glove box. See Figure . Check for poor terminal contact at ECM harness connector C20. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST . If no problem is found, leave harness connector disconnected and go to next step.
- Check for open or short to ground in Light Green/Black wire between HO2S No. 2 and ECM harness connector C20 terminal No. 7. See Figure . If problem is found, repair as necessary. If no problem is found, substitute a known good ECM, and repeat DTC CONFIRMATION TEST .
