DTC B1016: Shift Lock Circuit
DTC detecting condition:
Shift lock circuit is open, or shorted to power or ground.
Trouble symptom:
Shift lock does not be released or remain locked.
Wiring diagram:
Shift lock control system Ref. to WIRING SYSTEM>SHIFT LOCK CONTROL SYSTEM>WIRING DIAGRAM .
- CHECK DTC
.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Maintain the shift lever in P range for five seconds or more.
- Maintain the brake pedal depressed for one second or more.
- Read the DTC of [Body Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
Is DTC B1016 displayed? (Current code)
Yes: Go to 2.
No: Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause. - CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT INPUT SIGNAL
.
Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Body Control]. Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
- P SW
Is [ON] displayed when the shift lever is in P range, and is [OFF] displayed when the shift lever is in other than P range?
Yes: Go to 5.
No: Go to 3.
- CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)
.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Disconnect the body integrated unit connector.
- Disconnect the select lever connector.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between the select lever connector (P range switch) and the body integrated unit connector, and between the select lever connector (P range switch) and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(i171) No. 40 - (i44) No. 1:
(i44) No. 2 - Chassis ground:
Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?
Yes: Go to 4.
No: Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
- CHECK HARNESS (SHORT TO GROUND AND SHORTED BETWEEN LINES)
.
Using a tester, measure the resistance between the select lever connector (P range switch) terminals, and between the select lever connector (P range switch) and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(i44) No. 1 - (i44) No. 2:
(i44) No. 1 - Chassis ground:
Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more?
Yes: Replace the body integrated unit since its input is faulty. Ref. to SECURITY AND LOCKS>BODY INTEGRATED UNIT .
No: Repair or replace the short circuit of the harness.
- CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT OUTPUT SIGNAL
.
Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data Monitor] of [Body Control]. Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DATA MONITOR .
- Shift lock solenoid output
Is [ON] displayed when the brake pedal is depressed and is [OFF] displayed when the brake pedal is not depressed?
Yes: Go to 6.
No: Check the brake. When there is no problem with the brake, replace the body integrated unit since its output is faulty. Ref. to SECURITY AND LOCKS>BODY INTEGRATED UNIT .
- CHECK FUSE
.
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
- Check the fuse.
Is the check result OK?
Yes: Go to 7.
No: Replace the defective fuse.
- CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)
.
- Remove the ground terminal from battery sensor. Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
- Disconnect the select lever connector.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between the select lever connector (shift lock solenoid) and chassis ground.
Connector & terminal
(i44) No. 4 - Chassis ground:
NOTE: Measurement may not be able to be performed properly when the ground terminal is not disconnected from the battery sensor. Be sure to disconnect the battery sensor ground terminal before measurement. Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?
Yes: Go to 8.
No: Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
- CHECK SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID
.
Using a tester, measure the resistance between shift lock solenoid terminals.
Terminals
Shift lock solenoid
No. 3 - No. 4:
Is the resistance 27.6 - 30.5 Ω?
Yes: Go to 9.
No: Replace the shift lock solenoid. Ref. to CONTROL SYSTEMS>AT SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID AND "P" RANGE SWITCH>REMOVAL .
- CHECK HARNESS (OPEN CIRCUIT)
.
- Disconnect the body integrated unit connector.
- Using a tester, measure the resistance between the select lever connector (shift lock solenoid) and the body integrated unit connector.
Connector & terminal
(i44) No. 3 - (i84) No. 3:
NOTE: If the body integrated unit connector and the select lever connector are not disconnected, disconnect them first and then perform measurement. Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?
Yes: Go to 10.
No: Repair or replace the open circuit of harness.
- CHECK CONNECTOR
.
Check the terminals of the body integrated unit connector and the select lever connector (shift lock solenoid).
Is there poor contact of connector terminal?
Yes: Repair or replace the poor contact of terminal.
No: Go to 11.
- CHECK DTC
.
- Connect all the disconnected connectors.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Maintain the shift lever in P range and the brake pedal depressed for five seconds or more.
- Read the DTC of [Body Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to BODY CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .
Is DTC B1016 displayed? (Current code)
Yes: Replace the body integrated unit. Ref. to SECURITY AND LOCKS>BODY INTEGRATED UNIT .
No: Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.
NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.
