DTC B1504: Steering Switch Stuck On

DTC detecting condition: 

DTC is recorded when at least one of the steering switches that switch the meter display (Up • Down • Left • Right • Enter • Return) is detected to be ON continuously for 60 seconds or more.

Trouble symptom: 

The multi information display of the meter cannot be switched or operated.

CAUTION: Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description". Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .

  1. CHECK DTC  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Read the DTC of [Combination Meter] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to COMBINATION METER (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    Is DTC B1504 displayed? (Current code)

    Yes:  Go to  2.

    No:  Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time.

    Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis.

    NOTE: In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.
  2. CHECK STEERING SWITCH  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Remove the driver's airbag module. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>DRIVER'S AIRBAG MODULE>REMOVAL .
    3. Check the steering switch unit. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>SWITCHES AND HARNESS>INSPECTION .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Replace the steering switch. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>SWITCHES AND HARNESS>REMOVAL .

  3. CHECK HARNESS  .
    1. Remove the steering column cover. Ref. to POWER ASSISTED SYSTEM (POWER STEERING)>STEERING COLUMN>REMOVAL .
    2. Disconnect the connector from the combination meter. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER>REMOVAL .
    3. Disconnect the connector (i95) from the steering roll connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>ROLL CONNECTOR>REMOVAL .
    4. Using a tester, measure the resistance between the steering roll connector (i95) terminals and the resistance between the steering roll connector (i95) and chassis ground.

      Connector & terminal 

      (i95) No. 10 - Chassis ground:

      (i95) No. 11 - Chassis ground:

      (i95) No. 10 - (i95) No. 11:

      (i95) No. 10 - (i95) No. 12*1 or No. 2*2:

      (i95) No. 11 - (i95) No. 12*1 or No. 2*2:

    *1: Without EyeSight

    *2: With EyeSight

    Is the resistance 10 Ω or less?

    Yes:  Repair or replace the short circuit in the harness between the steering roll connector and combination meter.

    No:  Go to  4.

  4. CHECK STEERING ROLL CONNECTOR  .
    1. Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals of steering roll connector.

      C10 - C11 Always 1 MΩ or more
      C10 - C12(1) or C2(2) Always 1 MΩ or more
      C11 - C12(1) or C2(2) Always 1 MΩ or more
      (1) Without EyeSight

      (2) With EyeSight

      Is the resistance 1 MΩ or more?

      Yes:  Replace the combination meter. Ref. to INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>COMBINATION METER .

      No:  Replace the steering roll connector. Ref. to AIRBAG SYSTEM>ROLL CONNECTOR>REMOVAL .
