Primary Pulley and Secondary Pulley: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
  • The primary pulley and secondary pulley cannot be disassembled. 
  • Always replace the primary pulley, secondary pulley and variator chain as a set. 
  1. Remove the reduction drive gear. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TR580 CROSSTREK)>REDUCTION DRIVE GEAR>REMOVAL .
  2. Using the ST, expand the chain groove of the secondary pulley and completely loosen the variator chain.
    • When using EXPANDER PULLEY (18769AA030)

      Preparation tool: 

      ST: EXPANDER PULLEY (18769AA030)

    • When replacing EXPANDER PULLEY (18769AA010) and LOCK PLATE (16047AA000)
    NOTE:

    Remove the lower plate from EXPANDER PULLEY (18769AA010), and install LOCK PLATE (16047AA000). 

    Preparation tool: 

    ST1: EXPANDER PULLEY (18769AA010)

    ST2: LOCK PLATE (16047AA000)

  3. Remove the chain guide.
    1. Remove the chain guide (B) from the lubrication pipe (A).
    2. Remove the bolt and remove the lubrication pipe (A).

    3. Unlock the claws (A) and slide the chain guide to the direction of the arrow to remove the chain guide.

    4. Remove the chain guide (B) from the support rod (A).
    5. Remove the bolt, and then remove the support rod (A).

    6. Unlock the claws (A) and slide the chain guide to the direction of the arrow to remove the chain guide.

  4. Remove the primary pulley.
    CAUTION:

    Be careful not to scratch the primary pulley, secondary pulley and variator chain. 

    1. Remove the bolt securing the primary pulley.

    2. Intersect the chain groove of primary pulley and the chain groove of secondary pulley, remove the variator chain, and remove the primary pulley.

    3. Remove the primary pulley shim.

  5. Remove the secondary pulley.
    1. Remove the ST (EXPANDER PULLEY) and the variator chain.
    2. Remove the secondary pulley.

  6. Remove the seal rings.
