Diagnostic Procedure With ECU Cancel Code: 14

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Detected when the select lever is shifted to the neutral position, or when an error related to the neutral position switch occurs.

Trouble symptom: 

Cruise control cannot be set.

CAUTION: Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description" Ref. to EYESIGHT (DIAGNOSTICS) (EXCEPT FOR HEV)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  1. CHECK INHIBITOR SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the inhibitor switch connector.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    4. Measure the voltage between connector terminal and chassis ground.

      Connector and terminal 

      Impreza model 

      (T7) No. 6 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

      Crosstrek model 

      (T7) No. 5 (+) - Chassis ground (-):

    Is the voltage 10 V or more?

    Yes:  Go to  2.

    No: 

    • Check the fuse.
    • Check for open or short circuit in the harness between inhibitor switch and ECM.
  2. CHECK INHIBITOR SWITCH CIRCUIT  .
    1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
    2. Disconnect the starter motor connector.
    3. Measure the resistance between the inhibitor switch connector terminal and the starter motor.

      Connector and terminal 

      Impreza model 

      (T7) No. 9 - Starter motor:

      Crosstrek model 

      (T7) No. 4 - Starter motor:

    Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Repair the harness.

  3. CHECK INHIBITOR SWITCH  .

    Remove and check the inhibitor switch Ref. to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM>INHIBITOR SWITCH .

    Is the check result OK?

    Yes:  Replace the ECM. Ref. to FUEL INJECTION (FUEL SYSTEMS) (H4DO (EXCEPT FOR HEV))>ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) .

    No:  Replace the inhibitor switch.
