DTC P1CE9-31: Charger Cooling Fan Revolution Sensor No Signal: Notes

Outline of diagnosis: 

The no-rotation detection counter reached or exceeded the judgment value.

  1. CHECK DTC  .

    Read the DTC of [Plug-in Battery Charger] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to PLUG-IN BATTERY CHARGER (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    NOTE:

    U115087 LOST COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (HYBRID/EV BATTERY LOCAL BUS) MISSING MESSAGE

    If only DTC P1CE931 or P1CE996 is displayed, or a DTC other than those shown in the above reference is displayed, go to  A.

    When DTCs mentioned above are simultaneously displayed, go to  B.

    Yes  :

    1. Go to  2.
    2. Perform the diagnosis for the simultaneously displayed DTCs.
    NOTE: If more than one DTC is simultaneously displayed, perform the diagnosis in the order described in the above.

    No  : -

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST (CHARGER COOLING FAN)  .
    1. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, select the following items in the [Active Test] of [Plug-in Battery Charger]. Ref. to PLUG-IN BATTERY CHARGER (DIAGNOSTICS)>ACTIVE TEST .
      • Active test item: Activate the Charger Cooling Fan
    2. Perform active test for [Activate the Charger Cooling Fan].
    3. Check that the Charger cooling blower operates, the air is drawn at the intake air port of Charger cooling blower, and operating sound is heard.

    Is Charger cooling blower operating?

    Yes  : Go to  3.

    No  : Go to  6.

  3. CHECK THE Charger cooling blower (WAVEFORM MEASUREMENT)  .
    1. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, select the following items in the [Active Test] of [Plug-in Battery Charger]. Ref. to PLUG-IN BATTERY CHARGER (DIAGNOSTICS)>ACTIVE TEST .
      • Active test item: Activate the Charger Cooling Fan
    2. Perform active test for [Activate the Charger Cooling Fan].
    3. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals of the Electric vehicle charger assembly, and measure the waveform during the active test. (With the connector connected)

      NOTE: The cycle varies according to the cooling fan speed.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV31) No. 33 - Chassis ground:

      Equipment setting: 1 V/DIV, 5 ms/DIV

      Measuring condition: Cooling fan operating

    Was waveform measurement possible and were the following conditions met?

    • Cycle is 1.5 - 40 ms.
    • Duty (Lo range in each cycle) is 40 - 60%.

    Yes  : Go to  4.

    No  : Replace Charger cooling blower. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .

  4. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Charger cooling blower - Electric vehicle charger assembly)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Turn the ignition to OFF.
    2. Check that the Service plug is disconnected. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG .
    3. Disconnect Charger cooling blower connector (HV34).
    4. Disconnect Electric vehicle charger assembly connector (HV31).
    5. Using a tester, measure the resistance between Charger cooling blower connector and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV31) No. 33 - (HV34) No. 2:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes  : Go to  5.

    No  : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Charger cooling blower connector and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

  5. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Charger cooling blower - Electric vehicle charger assembly)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Charger cooling blower connector, and between Charger cooling blower connector and chassis ground.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV31) No. 33 - (HV31) No. 1 - 40:

    (HV31) No. 33 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance 10 kΩ or more?

    Yes  : Replace Electric vehicle charger assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .

    No  : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Charger cooling blower and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

  6. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (Charger cooling blower CONNECTOR)  .
    1. Check that the Service plug is disconnected. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG .
    2. Check the connection conditions of Charger cooling blower connector (HV34), and check the terminals for contact pressure, intrusion of foreign substance, and traces of arcing.

    Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?

    Yes  : Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.

    No  : Go to  7.

  7. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (Electric vehicle charger assembly CONNECTOR)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Check the connection conditions of Electric vehicle charger assembly connector (HV31), and check the terminals for contact pressure, intrusion of foreign substance, and traces of arcing.

    Is there looseness at the connector connection, or any poor contact, deformation or intrusion of water or foreign matters at the relevant terminals?

    Yes  : Connect the connector securely. Or repair the poor contact of connector.

    No  : Go to  8.

  8. CHECK Charger cooling blower (VISUAL CHECK)  .
    1. Remove the Charger cooling blower. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY COOLING SYSTEM .
    2. Check that there is no intruding foreign substance at the fan rotating part of the Charger cooling blower.
    3. Attach the Charger cooling blower.

    Is there an intruding foreign substance or sticking of the rotating part caused by foreign substance intrusion?

    Yes  : Repair or replace Charger cooling blower. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .

    No  : Go to  9.

  9. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Charger cooling blower - Electric vehicle charger assembly)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Disconnect Charger cooling blower connector (HV34).
    2. Disconnect Electric vehicle charger assembly connector (HV31).
    3. Using a tester, measure the resistance between Charger cooling blower connector and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV31) No. 34 - (HV34) No. 4:

      (HV31) No. 37 - (HV34) No. 3:

      (HV31) No. 33 - (HV34) No. 2:

      (HV31) No. 36 - (HV34) No. 1:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes  : Go to  10.

    No  : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Charger cooling blower connector and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

  10. CHECK Wire harness AND CONNECTOR (Charger cooling blower - Electric vehicle charger assembly)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between terminals in Charger cooling blower connector, and between Charger cooling blower connector and chassis ground.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV31) No. 34 - (HV31) No. 1 - 40:

    (HV31) No. 34 - Chassis ground:

    (HV31) No. 37 - (HV31) No. 1 - 40:

    (HV31) No. 37 - Chassis ground:

    (HV31) No. 33 - (HV31) No. 1 - 40:

    (HV31) No. 33 - Chassis ground:

    (HV31) No. 36 - (HV31) No. 1 - 40:

    (HV31) No. 36 - Chassis ground:

    Is the resistance 10 kΩ or more?

    Yes  : Go to  11.

    No  : Repair or replace the Wire harness between Charger cooling blower connector and Electric vehicle charger assembly connector.

  11. CHECK Electric vehicle charger assembly (VOLTAGE CHECK)  .
    1. Connect the disconnected connectors.
    2. Disconnect the ground terminal of Battery (12V). Ref. to REPAIR CONTENTS>REPAIR CONTENTS>NOTE>BATTERY .
    3. Turn to IG ON.
    4. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, select the following items in the [Active Test] of [Plug-in Battery Charger]. Ref. to PLUG-IN BATTERY CHARGER (DIAGNOSTICS)>ACTIVE TEST .
      • Active test item: Activate the Charger Cooling Fan
    5. Perform active test for [Activate the Charger Cooling Fan].
    6. Using a tester, measure the voltage between Electric vehicle charger assembly connector terminals. (With the connector connected)

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV31) No. 36 (+) - (HV31) No. 37 (-):

    Is the voltage 11 - 14 V?

    Yes  : Go to  12.

    No  : Replace Electric vehicle charger assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .

  12. CHECK THE Charger cooling blower (WAVEFORM MEASUREMENT)  .
    1. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, select the following items in the [Active Test] of [Plug-in Battery Charger]. Ref. to PLUG-IN BATTERY CHARGER (DIAGNOSTICS)>ACTIVE TEST .
      • Active test item: Activate the Charger Cooling Fan
    2. Perform active test for [Activate the Charger Cooling Fan].
    3. Connect the oscilloscope to the terminals of the Electric vehicle charger assembly, and measure the waveform. (With the connector connected)

      NOTE: Waveforms vary depending on the communication contents.

      Connector & terminal 

      (HV31) No. 34 - Chassis ground:

      Equipment setting: 1 V/DIV, 50 μs/DIV

      Measuring condition: Cooling fan operating

    Was waveform measurement possible and were the following conditions met?

    • Cycle is 44 - 55 μs.
    • Duty (Lo range in each cycle) is 45 - 100%.

    Yes  : Replace Charger cooling blower. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .

    No  : Replace Electric vehicle charger assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER .
