DTC P0A7A-73: Generator Inverter Actuator Stuck Closed: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

1. - 

Detecting condition: 

When any phase current flows at a certain value or more after generator inverter shutdown after a DTC that indicates generator inverter malfunction (overheat, overcurrent or circuit error) is output

(1 trip detection logic)

Trouble symptom: 

  1. Normal driving
  2. When malfunction continues
    • Reduced output power
    • A driving range is limited
    • Engine always stopped
  3. In addition, When malfunction continues Hybrid system stopped

CAUTION:
  • Before performing diagnosis, refer to "CAUTION" in "General Description". Ref. to P-HEV DRIVE MOTOR (DIAGNOSTICS)>GENERAL DESCRIPTION>CAUTION .
  • Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.
  • Depending on the vehicle situation that short circuit has occurred in the Inverter with converter assembly, the Transmission assembly may be adversely affected. Therefore, if this DTC is detected, perform Transmission assembly performance test and replace abnormal parts.
  • After all repair processes including previously output DTC repair procedures are completed, test drive the vehicle at approx. 40 km/h (25 MPH) for 1 minute to ensure that DTC P0A9200 is not output. If DTC P0A9200 is detected, replace the Transmission assembly before the vehicle is delivered.

  1. CHECK DTC  .

    Read the DTC of [P-HEV Hybrid Powertrain Control] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to PHEV HYBRID POWERTRAIN CONTROL (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    NOTE:
    Malfunction contents Related DTC
    Insulation malfunction P1C7C49 HYBRID/EV BATTERY VOLTAGE SYSTEM ISOLATION (A/C AREA) INTERNAL ELECTRONIC FAILURE
    P1C7D49 HYBRID/EV BATTERY VOLTAGE SYSTEM ISOLATION (HYBRID/EV BATTERY AREA) INTERNAL ELECTRONIC FAILURE
    P1C7E49 HYBRID/EV BATTERY VOLTAGE SYSTEM ISOLATION (TRANSAXLE AREA) INTERNAL ELECTRONIC FAILURE
    P1C7F49 HYBRID/EV BATTERY VOLTAGE SYSTEM ISOLATION (DIRECT CURRENT AREA) INTERNAL ELECTRONIC FAILURE

    When "Only DTC P0A7A73 is displayed" or "DTC other than above is displayed at the same time", go to  A.

    When DTCs related to [P-HEV Hybrid Powertrain Control] mentioned above are simultaneously displayed, go to  B.

    Yes: 

    1. Go to  2.
    2. Perform the diagnosis for the simultaneously displayed DTCs.
    NOTE: If more than one DTC is simultaneously displayed, perform the diagnosis in the order described in the above.

    No:  -

  2. CHECK Transmission assembly (GENERATOR)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Check that the Service plug is disconnected. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>SERVICE PLUG .
    2. Disconnect Power cable (HV99) from Inverter with converter assembly.
    3. Using a milliohm tester, measure the resistance between Power cable terminals.
    NOTE:
    • When the generator temperature is too high, the resistance value changes largely. Therefore, measure the resistance after stopping the vehicle and leaving it for eight hours or more.
    • To correct a change of the resistance value due to temperature, calculate the resistance value at 20°C (68°F) by applying the following formula:

    R20 = Rt/(1 + 0.00393 x (T - 20))
    R20: Resistance value (mΩ) at 20°C (68°F)
    Rt: Measured resistance value (mΩ)
    T: Temperature (°C (°F)) at measuring the resistance

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV99) W1 - (HV99) U1:

    (HV99) U1 - (HV99) V1:

    (HV99) V1 - (HV99) W1:

    Is the resistance as follows?

    (HV99) W1 - (HV99) U1: 49.30 - 78.96 mΩ

    (HV99) U1 - (HV99) V1: 49.30 - 78.96 mΩ

    (HV99) V1 - (HV99) W1: 49.30 - 78.96 mΩ

    Yes:  Go to  3.

    No:  Go to  4.

  3. CHECK Transmission assembly (GENERATOR)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a megohmmeter (500 V range), measure the resistance between Power cable (on Inverter with converter assembly side) terminal and chassis ground and shield line ground.

    CAUTION: When performing this check, be sure to set megohmmeter to 500 V. Using a range higher than 500 V may damage the part being checked.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV99) W1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV99) U1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV99) V1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    Is the resistance 10 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Replace Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .

    After replacement, Go to  9.

    NOTE: Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.

    No:  Go to  4.

  4. CHECK Power cable (SHORT TO GROUND)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Remove the Power cable.
    2. Using a megohmmeter (500 V range), measure the resistance between Power cable (on Inverter with converter assembly side) terminal and chassis ground and shield line ground.
    CAUTION:
    • When performing this check, be sure to set megohmmeter to 500 V. Using a range higher than 500 V may damage the part being checked.
    • To prevent the terminals of three-phase AC cable from contacting the chassis ground, be sure to wrap with protection tape.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV99) W1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV99) U1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV99) V1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    Is the resistance 10 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Go to  5.

    No:  Replace Power cable. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>POWER CABLE .

  5. CHECK THE Power cable UNIT (OPEN CIRCUIT)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between Power cable terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV99) W1 - (HV98) W1:

    (HV99) U1 - (HV98) U1:

    (HV99) V1 - (HV98) V1:

    Is the resistance less than 1 Ω?

    Yes:  Go to  6.

    No:  Replace Power cable. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>POWER CABLE .

  6. CHECK Power cable UNIT (SHORTED BETWEEN LINES)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a tester, measure the resistance between Power cable terminals.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV99) W1 - (HV98) U1:

    (HV99) U1 - (HV98) V1:

    (HV99) V1 - (HV98) W1:

    Is the resistance 100 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Replace the Transmission assembly and Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY . Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .

    After replacement, Go to  9.

    NOTE: Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.

    No:  Go to  7.

  7. CHECK Transmission assembly (GENERATOR)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.
    1. Disconnect Power cable from Transmission assembly.
    2. Using a milliohm tester, measure the resistance between Transmission assembly terminals.
    NOTE:
    • When the motor temperature is too high, the resistance value changes largely. Therefore, measure the resistance after stopping the vehicle and leaving it for eight hours or more.
    • To correct a change of the resistance value due to temperature, calculate the resistance value at 20°C (68°F) by applying the following formula:

    R20 = Rt/(1 + 0.00393 x (T - 20))
    R20: Resistance value (mΩ) at 20°C (68°F)
    Rt: Measured resistance value (mΩ)
    T: Temperature (°C (°F)) at measuring the resistance

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV98) W1 - (HV98) U1:

    (HV98) U1 - (HV98) V1:

    (HV98) V1 - (HV98) W1:

    Is the resistance as follows?

    (HV98) W1 - (HV98) U1: 49.30 - 54.30 mΩ

    (HV98) U1 - (HV98) V1: 49.30 - 54.30 mΩ

    (HV98) V1 - (HV98) W1: 49.30 - 54.30 mΩ

    Yes:  Go to  8.

    No:  Replace the Power cable, Transmission assembly and Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>POWER CABLE . Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY . Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .

    After replacement, Go to  9.

    NOTE: Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.
  8. CHECK Transmission assembly (GENERATOR)  .
    CAUTION: Make sure to wear insulated gloves and protective goggles during the work.

    Using a megohmmeter (500 V range), measure the resistance between Transmission assembly terminals and chassis ground/shield line ground.

    CAUTION: When performing this check, be sure to set megohmmeter to 500 V. Using a range higher than 500 V may damage the part being checked.

    Connector & terminal 

    (HV98) W1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV98) U1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    (HV98) V1 - Chassis ground and shield line ground:

    Is the resistance 100 MΩ or more?

    Yes:  Replace the Power cable and Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>POWER CABLE . Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .

    After replacement, Go to  9.

    NOTE: Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.

    No:  Replace the Power cable, Transmission assembly and Inverter with converter assembly. Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>POWER CABLE . Ref. to CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (TH2A)>TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY . Ref. to HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE>INVERTER AND CONVERTER ASSEMBLY .

    After replacement, Go to  9.

    NOTE: Since this DTC is detected after either of DTC P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.
  9. CHECK DTC  .

    Read the DTC of [P-HEV Drive Motor] using the Subaru Select Monitor. Ref. to P-HEV DRIVE MOTOR (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) .

    NOTE:
    Related DTC 
    P0A7A9E GENERATOR INVERTER STUCK ON
    P1C5F19 GENERATOR INVERTER CIRCUIT CURRENT ABOVE THRESHOLD

    Since this DTC is detected after either of P0A7A9E or P1C5F19 is confirmed, the DTC that was output simultaneously must be checked after the inspection was complete.

    Yes:  Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. Ref. to P-HEV DRIVE MOTOR (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>DTC P0A7A9E GENERATOR INVERTER STUCK ON . Ref. to P-HEV DRIVE MOTOR (DIAGNOSTICS)>DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE WITH DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)>DTC P1C5F19 GENERATOR INVERTER CIRCUIT CURRENT ABOVE THRESHOLD .
