Extension Case Oil Seal: Replacement

- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Clean the transmission exterior.
- Remove the ATF drain plug to drain ATF.CAUTION: After running the engine or after idling for a long time, the ATF is hot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
- Tighten the ATF drain plug.NOTE: Use a new gasket.
Tightening torque:
25 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lb)
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Rear Exhaust Pipe. > < Ref. to REMOVAL , Muffler. >
- Remove the heat shield cover.
- Remove the propeller shaft. < Ref. to REMOVAL , Propeller Shaft. >
- Using the ST, remove the oil seal.
ST 398527700 PULLER ASSY
- Using the ST, install the oil seal.
ST 498057300 INSTALLER
- Install the propeller shaft. < Ref. to INSTALLATION , Propeller Shaft. >
- Install the heat shield cover.
- Install the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.

- Pour ATF into the oil charge pipe.
Recommended fluid:
Subaru ATF Type-HP
Substitute fluid:
Idemitsu "Apolloil ATF HP", Castrol "Trans-max J", Pennzoil Quakererstate "Pennzoil ATF-J"
Capacity:
Fill with the same amount of ATF as drained.
- Bleed the air of the control valve.
