Remove/install hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements - AR05.00-P-2011EL

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove camshafts IMPORTANT The camshaft positioners remain on the camshafts. AR05.20-P-6992EL
2 Remove roller cam follower (1) and compensating element (2) IMPORTANT When removing several compensating elements (2) make sure that roller-type cam follower (1) with compensation elements (2), which were not replaced, are reinstalled at the previous fitting point. Mark the roller cam follower (1) for the corresponding compensating element (2) if necessary.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Lubricate roller cam follower (1) and compensating element (2).
 
INSPECT Check     
3 Check that compensating element (2) is functioning properly, and replace if necessary NOTES Only push compensating element (2) together by hand, do not use a steel tool.
The surface of the compensating element (2) can get damaged otherwise.
IMPORTANT The compensating element (2) should not allow itself to be pressed together by the normal force of the hand and also only slowly when using a strong force.
IMPORTANT Check the pressure oil supply to the cylinder head if more than one compensating element (2) is defective.
 
4 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

5 Carry out an engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaktightness
