Check hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements - AR05.00-P-2010EW

INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

1 Check engine oil level, correct if necessary    
2 Start engine, bring to normal operating temperature and switch off IMPORTANT Coolant temperature 60 to 80°C  
3 Remove cylinder head covers Right cylinder head cover except model 212.057 AR01.20-P-5012EL
    Right cylinder head cover model 212.057 AR01.20-P-5012ELD
    Left cylinder head cover except model 212.057 AR01.20-P-5013EL
    Left cylinder head cover model 212.057 AR01.20-P-5013ELD
4 Crank engine at crankshaft until cam on the valve clearance compensation element to be checked is standing on the base circle IMPORTANT Do not turn engine against direction of engine rotation. If the roller-type cam follower (1) does not touch the cam: ↓  
    Replace compensation element AR05.00-P-2011EW 
5 Compress compensating element, to do this, depress the roller-type cam follower (1) using a suitable drift (01) NOTES Never use a steel tool to avoid damaging the surfaces.
IMPORTANT The compensating element should be pressed together very slowly with the normal force of the hand. Do not apply strong pressure.
IMPORTANT If compensating element drops too strongly:
 
    Replace compensation element
IMPORTANT If several compensation elements are defective, check pressure oil supply to the cylinder head.

6 Install in the reverse order    
7 Carry out an engine test run and check engine for leaks
