MODEL 212 with CODE 249 (Automatically dimming inside rearview mirror and outside mirror including fold-in outside mirrors) without CODE 494 (US version)

Function requirements, general

Left/right folding outside mirror, general

The left outside mirror (M211) and right outside mirror (M212) can be folded in and out electrically. This can be done both automatically as well as manually.

The left front door control unit (N69/1) has the master function during adjustment and relays the necessary signals to the right front door control unit (N69/2) via the interior CAN (CAN-B).

If a new adjustment request is recognized while adjustment is in progress, the adjustment is directly switched to the opposite direction.

The left/right outside mirror comprises the following partial functions:

Function sequence for manual folding in/out

The partial function manual fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for manually folding in

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status circuit of circuit 15 and the vehicle speed is transmitted by the instrument cluster (A1) to the front door control unit via the interior CAN.

Manual folding in function sequence

S20s9By pressing the outside mirror fold in/out switch in the driver power window and outside mirror adjustment switch group, the two outside mirror housings can be folded in (garage position). S20 The left front door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch via left door LIN (LIN B5) and transmits the it to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor (M211m3) in the left outside mirror.

The right door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor (M212m3) in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

Additional function requirements for manual fold-out

Manual folding out function sequence

Both outside mirrors can be moved to the driving position by actuating the outside mirror fold-in/fold-out switch.

The left front door control unit reads in the status of the outside mirror fold-in/out switch via left front door LIN and transmits it to the right front door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor () in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-in/out

IMPORTANT For this purpose it is necessary to activate the "Mirror fold-in when locking" feature in the menu "Settings", "Comfort". The menus are indicated in the multifunction display (A1p13) in the instrument cluster. The system is operated using the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111). N135The control signals from the multifunction steering wheel button group are read in directly via the steering LIN (LIN E1), steering column tube module (N80) and chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.2.13) or chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 1.3.13) to the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster sends the function enable to the control unit via the passenger compartment CAN.

Automatic folding in/out, function sequence

The partial function automatic fold-in/out comprises the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for automatically folding in

Automatic folding in function sequence

When the vehicle is locked with the central locking (CL) from outside both outside mirrors are folded in automatically (garage position). The electronic ignition lock control units transmit the status of the CL to the front door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor () in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

IMPORTANT The signal for locking the vehicle via CL is described in the function description "Central locking (CL) function" in detail.

Additional function requirements for automatic folding out

Automatic folding out function sequence

When the vehicle is unlocked via the CL and then the driver door opened, both outside mirrors are folded out automatically to the driving position.

The electronic ignition lock control units transmit the status of the CL to the front door control unit via the interior CAN. Opening the driver door is detected by the left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1) in the left front door lock (A85).

The left front door control unit directly reads in the status of the left front door rotary tumbler switch and transmits it to the right front door control unit over the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor () in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 5 s.

IMPORTANT If the outside mirrors are still folded in with circuit 15R ON by a previous automatic folding-in procedure, they are folded out immediately.

Additional function requirements for automatic fold-out via speed signal

Function sequence for automatic fold-out via speed signal

The outside mirrors are folded out automatically when the vehicle speed v exceeds 47 km/h.

The instrument cluster transmits the vehicle speed to the front door control unit via the interior CAN.

The left front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor in the left outside mirror.

The right front door control unit actuates the outside mirror fold-in/out electric motor () in the right outside mirror.

The actuation duration is t = 1 s.

IMPORTANT After exceeding a speed of v > 47 km/h is no longer possible to fold in the outside mirrors.
