Removing and installing tailgate hinge assembly - AR72.20-P-2560ES

DANGER Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A
IMPORTANT Notes on sensor system for trunk lid opening/closing   AH80.61-P-0001-01A
REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove rear spoiler    
2 Remove headliner    
3 Remove tailgate control drive unit    
4 Remove left and right cover (2) from left and right hinge (4)    
5 Unscrew left and right bolt (3) from left and right hinge (4)    
6 Unclip cover (7)    
7 Lay rag (8) below rear-end door (5) to protect against paint damage as shown    
8 Secure rear-end door (5) with support (6) SPECIAL TOOL Support Fig 3
9 Mark installation position of left and right hinge (4) on roof frame and rear-end door (5)    
10 Remove covers above nuts (9)    
11 Unscrew nuts (9) from rear-end door (5) NOTES Remove hinges (4) only separately when rear-end door (5) and support (6) are installed. If both hinges (4) are to be removed, the second hinge (4) should only be removed after installing the first hinge (4).
Otherwise the rear-end door (5) can be damaged and the adjustment of the rear-end door (5) can be changed.
 
12 Unscrew bolts (10) from roof frame and remove hinge (4)    
INSTALLING Install     
13 Align hinge (4) at installation marking on roof frame and tighten bolts (10) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, rear-end door hinge to body *BA72.20-P-1002-02L 
14 Screw nuts (9) to rear-end door (5) finger-tight IMPORTANT It should be possible to move the rear-end door (5). Tighten nuts (9) after adjusting rear-end door (5).
Install covers above nuts (9) after adjusting rear-end door (5).
 
15 Take off support (6) SPECIAL TOOL Support Fig 3
16 Adjust liftgate (5) Adjust rear-end door AR72.20-P-3510ES 
17 Clip in cover (7)    
18 Screw left and right bolt (3) into left and right hinge (4)    
19 Install left and right cover (2) on left and right hinge (4)    
20 Install tailgate control drive unit    
21 Synchronize tailgate control drive unit    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
    IMPORTANT The system must be resynchronized if the position of the rear-end door (5) changes.  
22 Install headliner    
23 Install rear spoiler
