Important notes on troubleshooting

Check following information with customer before starting troubleshooting:

When did the alarms occur (time of day)
How often did the alarms occur
Since when did the complaint occur?
Under what circumstances does the complaint occur?
How long after locking the vehicle does the complaint occur?
Was the vehicle driven previously?
Were temperature differences present?
Were objects present in the vehicle (charms, mascots on inside mirror, metal objects, etc.)?
Were objects removed from the vehicle?
Which work was accomplished previously on the vehicle (repairs, retrofits)?

Then perform quick test with Star Diagnosis and evaluate fault code. In this case it is necessary to note that relevant fault codes are frequently not stored in the event of false alarms.

Before performing a function check, it is absolutely necessary to read and print out the alarm source memory, because otherwise the data records present can be overwritten.

Alarm siren and rear SAM control unit:

When the alarm siren or the rear SAM control unit is replaced, it is necessary to code the national version. The alarm siren is automatically coded with the software calibration number (SCN) when the rear SAM control unit is coded. For this purpose it is necessary for the communication between the alarm siren and rear SAM control unit to function properly.

IRS interior protection control unit and tow-away protection (on model 204, 207.3, 212, 218):

When the IRS control unit and tow-away protection (integrated into the overhead control panel) are replaced, it is necessary to code the parameter record for the interior protection feature:

After repairing the ATA [EDW] it is necessary to erase the fault memory as well as the alarm memory.
