Function requirements, general
- Circuit 15R ON
The status of circuit 15R is sent by the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) via chassis CAN (CAN E) (up to 28.2.13) or via chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) (as of 1.3.13) to the supplemental restraint system control unit (N2/10).

Passenger-side seat occupied recognition, general
The occupancy of the front passenger seat is recorded by the supplemental restraint system. On vehicles with code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR) a fitted child seat is also recognized.
The automatic child seat recognition function is only guaranteed to work with a child seat that has been approved and coded by Daimler AG. This child seat must be equipped with two transponders (resonators), which are located at the left and right in its base.
The passenger-side seat occupied recognition function includes the following subfunctions:

Without code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]):
The passenger seat occupation is detected by the front passenger seat occupied recognition (B41/1). Only the status "Seat occupied" or "Seat not occupied" can be detected. The supplemental restraint system control unit reads in the relevant signals of the front passenger seat seat occupancy recognition.
The occupancy status of the front passenger seat has no influence on the triggering behavior of the supplemental restraint system. The occupancy status is only required by the instrument cluster (A1) for the seat belt reminder warning. With code (U18) Automatic child seat recognition (ACSR [AKSE]): The front passenger seat occupancy as well as the child seat recognition are detected by the front passenger seat occupied and automatic child seat recognition (B48).
The following situations are defined:
- Seat not occupied
- Seat occupied (light or heavy person)
- Child seat detected
The supplemental restraint system control unit reads in the corresponding signals of the front passenger seat occupied recognition and ACSR [AKSE] directly on vehicles up to 28.2.13. On vehicles as of 1.3.13, the supplemental restraint system control unit reads in the signals via the seat occupancy LIN (LIN E2).

The output of status and fault messages includes the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for status messages
The status messages are output via the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp (S6/1e1) in the instrument panel switch group (S6/1) (up to 28.2.13) or via the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp (N72/1e1) (as of 1.3.13) in the upper control panel control unit (N72/1). If a child seat is recognized, the signal for switching on the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp is sent by the supplemental restraint system control unit via chassis CAN (up to 28.2.13) or via chassis CAN 1 (as of 1.3.13) to the front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1). The front SAM control unit actuates the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp accordingly via instrument panel LIN (LIN 1).
Function sequence for outputting fault messages
If the front passenger seat occupied and automatic child seat recognition function is defective or communication with the supplemental restraint system control unit is interrupted (e.g. plug not connected), the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp is also switched on. A fault is also stored in the supplemental restraint system control unit and a corresponding message is shown on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.
The request for outputting this message is sent by the supplemental restraint system control unit on vehicles up to 28.2.13 via chassis CAN or on vehicles as of 1.3.13 via chassis CAN 1, front SAM control unit and chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) to the instrument cluster. If the child seat is defective or improperly positioned (only one resonator detected), the supplemental restraint system indicator lamp (A1e15) in the instrument cluster and the automatic child seat recognition warning lamp are switched on.
