REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP15.10-P-1580MCC
8 Screw adaptation (2) into the respective spark plug bore and attach compressed air hose SPECIAL TOOL Adaptation Fig 5
9 Apply compressed air to cylinder IMPORTANT This avoids the valve falling into the combustion chamber.
10 Screw in thread extension (3) and counter stay (4) in the area of the respective valves into a threaded hole on the cylinder head SPECIAL TOOL Thread extension for retaining fork Figure

11 Remove valve tappet (1) to the respective valves from the basic bore in the cylinder head NOTES
Do not use magnets.
Gathering of the smallest metal shavings can occur due to magnetization of the valve tappet (1) which can lead to damage of valve tappet (1) and camshaft.
IMPORTANT When recycling the valve tappet (1), it must be reinstalled at the same location. The valve tappets (1) are designed in various thicknesses to compensate for the valve clearance. The dimension for the thickness of the valve tappet (1) is located on its underside.

12 Attach lever handle and depressor (6) to the thrust fork (5) and hook into the counter stay (4) SPECIAL TOOL Depressor Figure
13 Position depressor (6) in the middle on the upper valve spring retainer (8) and press valve spring (9) together through pressing together the lever handle
14 Remove valve locks (7) using suitable magnets and also remove thrust fork (5) using a depressor (6) and lever handle
15 Remove valve spring retainer (8) and valve spring (9) IMPORTANT Observe installation position of valve spring (9). The valve spring retainer (10) can remain in the cylinder head.
16 Detach valve stem seal (11), using pliers out of the valves repair tool, from the valve guide
INSTALLING Install
17 Lubricate new valve stem seal (13) with engine oil
18 Insert new valve stem seal (13) on the valve stem (12) and press on using drift (14) NOTES
The new valve stem seal (13) must not removed again from the valve stem (12).
The valve stem seal (13) is damaged during removal and is therefore unusable.

19 Insert valve spring (9) and valve spring retainer (8) IMPORTANT Observe installation position of valve spring (9).
20 Hook thrust fork (5) with depressor (6) and lever handle into the counter stay (4)
21 Position depressor (6) in the middle on the valve spring retainer (8) and press together valve spring (9) through pressing down the lever handle, insert the valve locks (7) on the valve stem (12) in the cutout and then relieve the valve spring retainer (8) IMPORTANT Check for correct seating of the valve locks (7); repeat the operation step if necessary.
22 Remove thrust fork (5) with depressor (6) and lever handle
23 Insert valve tappet (1) on the respective valve in the basic bore in the cylinder head IMPORTANT When recycling the valve tappet (1), it must be reinstalled at the same location. The valve tappets (1) are designed in various thicknesses to compensate for the valve clearance. The dimension for the thickness of the valve tappet (1) is located on its underside.
24 Remove thread extension (3) and counter stays (4) on the cylinder head SPECIAL TOOL Thread extension for retaining fork Figure
25 Repeat operation steps 8 to 24 until all valve stem seals (11) have been replaced by new valve stem seals (13)
26 Disconnect compressed air hose and remove adaptation (2) from the spark plug bore SPECIAL TOOL Adaptation Fig 5
27 Install spark plugs
