On-Vehicle Inspection [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

• Perform the tire pressure warning system initialization when the following operations have been performed:
  • Tire pressures have been adjusted
  • Tires or wheels have been replaced
  • Tires have been rotated
  • VSC replaced
  • VSC connector disconnected
  • Battery replaced
  • Negative battery cable is disconnected

HINT: 

• The tire pressure warning system initialization can be performed using two types of procedures. If the procedure using the Techstream is used, the mis-use prevention logic is disabled.

1. Using tire pressure warning reset switch
   1. Park the vehicle on safe, level ground.
   2. Adjust all four tire pressures to the specification while the tires are cold.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

      NOTE:

      Cold tires means leaving the vehicle for 1 h or, if the vehicle is driven, do so within 1.6 km {0.99mile}.

   3. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
   4. Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch.

   5. Press and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch until the tire pressure warning light flashes 1 or 2 times and the indicator alarm sounds 1 time.

      HINT: 

      • When the tire pressure warning system initialization is performed, learning initiates. Learning is completed by driving the vehicle for approx. 20 min.
      • While the tire pressure warning system is undergoing learning, its primary functions do not operate.
2. Using Techstream
   1. Park the vehicle on safe, level ground.
   2. Adjust all four tire pressures to the specification while the tires are cold.

      Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

      NOTE:

      Cold tires means leaving the vehicle for 1 h or, if the vehicle is driven, do so within 1.6 km {0.99mile}.

   3. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
   4. After the vehicle is identified, select the following items from the initial screen of the Techstream.
      1. Select "Chassis"
      2. Select "ABS/VSC"
      3. Select "TPWS Reset"

      HINT: 

      • When the tire pressure warning system initialization is performed, learning initiates. Learning is completed by driving the vehicle for approx. 20 min.
      • While the tire pressure warning system is undergoing learning, its primary functions do not operate.
   5. Perform the procedure according to the directions on the screen.

1. Operation Record Verification Procedure
   1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC-2.
   2. After vehicle identification, select the following from the Techstream initial screen.
      1. Operation Record
   3. Then, select the following from the screen menu.
      1. Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS)
   4. Display the tire pressure warning system (TPWS) operation record according to the screen instructions.
2. Operation Record Use Example
   1. For a customer who states that the tire pressure warning light was illuminated, verify if the customer knows how to correctly use the tire pressure warning reset switch, and give them advice on how to use it if necessary.

      • The following can be understood from the operation record display indicated above.
        • Tire pressure warning reset switch operation record (Techstream display: TPWS Learning Reset Button Record)
      • Tire pressure warning light illumination operation record (Techstream display: TPWS Warning Lamp illumination)
        • The VSC CM detects a low tire pressure four days before, and the total traveled distance (Techstream display:Odometer) at that time was 403 km {250 mile}, the vehicle speed (Techstream display: Speed) was 38 km/h{24 mph}, and the maximum vehicle speed from when the tire pressure warning light illuminated was 101 km/h {62.8 mph}.
      • Based on the above information, provide the following advise, as there is the possibility that the customer does not understand how to correctly use the tire pressure warning reset switch.
        • If the tire pressure warning light was illuminated, it will be necessary to adjust the tire pressures on all four tires to the specification and initialize the system by pressing the tire pressure warning reset switch.

        • If the vehicle is driven at high speed with low tire pressure, there is the danger of a tire rupture occurring.
3. Reference information regarding operation history of tire pressure warning light illumination
   • The tire pressure warning light illumination status and the operation record are as displayed in the table, and if the tire pressure warning light is illuminated after flashing due to a system malfunction, the operation record is not recorded.
