DTC B1098-11: Left Position Light circuit short to ground [07/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. DETERMINE MALFUNCTIONING LIGHT 
    1. Operate the headlight dimmer switch to the TNS (Parking Lights) position.
    2. Are there any lights among the following which are not illuminated?
      • Parking light (LH)/front side marker light (LH)
      • Taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH)

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      If all lights do not turn on Yes (A)
      If parking light (LH)/front side marker light (LH) does not turn on:
      • With headlight assembly (bulb type)
      		 Yes (B)
      If parking light (LH)/front side marker light (LH) does not turn on:
      • With headlight assembly (LED type)
      		 Yes (C)
      If taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH) does not turn on Yes (D)
      - No

    Result:  1

    Yes (A)

  2. INSPECT POWER SOURCE CONTROL (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) CONNECTOR CONDITION 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Disconnect the power source control (power management control ECU) connector.
    4. Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
    5. Is the connector normal?

      Yes
      No

  3. VISUALLY INSPECT PARKING LIGHT BULB (LH)/FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT BULB (LH) 
    1. Visually inspect the parking light bulb (LH)/front side marker light bulb (LH).
    2. Is the parking light bulb (LH)/front side marker light bulb (LH) normal?

  4. INSPECT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (LH) CONNECTOR CONDITION 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to INSTALLATION [07/2015 - ]

    3. Disconnect the headlight assembly (LH) connector.
    4. Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
    5. Is the connector normal?

  5. INSPECT POWER SOURCE CONTROL (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU) CONNECTOR CONDITION 
    1. Disconnect the power source control (power management control ECU) connector.
    2. Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
    3. Is the connector normal?

      Yes
      No

  6. INSPECT PARKING LIGHT (LH)/FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT (LH) CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Verify that the headlight assembly (LH) and power source control (power management control ECU) connectors are disconnected.
    2. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
      • Headlight assembly (LH) terminal A24-2 (With headlight assembly (bulb type))
      • Headlight assembly (LH) terminal A23-2 (With headlight assembly (LED type))
    3. Is there continuity?

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      - Yes
      With headlight assembly (bulb type) No (A)
      With headlight assembly (LED type) No (B)

  7. VERIFY IF MALFUNCTIONING LOCATION IS HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (LH) DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY 
    1. Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    2. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Clear the DTC for the power source control (power management control ECU) using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Clear DTCs 

    4. Operate the headlight dimmer switch to the TNS (Parking Lights) position.
    5. Retrieve the power source control (power management control ECU) DTCs using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Clear DTCs 

    6. Is the same DTC displayed?

      Result

      Yes
      No

    Result:  1

    No

  8. VISUALLY INSPECT TAILLIGHT BULB (RH)/ REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHT BULB (RH) 
    1. Visually inspect the taillight bulb (RH)/rear side marker light bulb (RH).
    2. Is the taillight bulb (RH)/rear side marker light bulb (RH) normal?

  9. INSPECT TAILLIGHT (RH)/REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHT (RH) CONNECTOR CONDITION 
    1. Switch the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    3. Disconnect the taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH) connector.
    4. Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
    5. Is the connector normal?

    2. Inspect the connector engagement and connection condition and inspect the terminals for damage, deformation, corrosion, or disconnection.
    3. Is the connector normal?

  11. INSPECT TAILLIGHT (RH)/REAR SIDE MARKER LIGHT (RH) CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Verify that the taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH) and power source control (power management control ECU) connectors are disconnected.
    2. Inspect for continuity between the following terminals (wiring harness-side) and body ground:
      • Taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH) terminal C
    3. Is there continuity?

  12. VERIFY IF MALFUNCTIONING LOCATION IS REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY (RH) DEPENDING ON REPEATABILITY 
    1. Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    2. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Clear the DTC for the power source control (power management control ECU) using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Clear DTCs 

    4. Operate the headlight dimmer switch to the TNS (Parking Lights) position.
    5. Retrieve the power source control (power management control ECU) DTCs using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Trouble Codes 

    6. Is the same DTC displayed?

      Result

      Yes
      No

    Result:  1

    No

  13. VERIFY THAT REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED 
    1. Always reconnect all disconnected connectors.
    2. Connect the negative battery cable.

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    3. Clear the DTC for the power source control (power management control ECU) using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Clear DTCs 

    4. Operate the headlight dimmer switch to the TNS (Parking Lights) position.
    5. Retrieve the power source control (power management control ECU) DTCs using the Techstream.

      Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR [07/2015 - ]

      Body Electrical > Electric Supply Unit > Trouble Codes 

    6. Is the same DTC displayed?

      Result

  14. VERIFY IF OTHER DTCS DISPLAYED 
    1. Are any other DTCs displayed?

    REPAIR OR REPLACE THE MALFUNCTIONING PART ACCORDING TO THE APPLICABLE DTC TROUBLESHOOTING. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [07/2015 - ] 

  15. REPEAT THE INSPECTION FROM STEP 1. 
    1. If the malfunction recurs, replace the power source control (power management control ECU).

      Refer to REMOVAL [07/2015 - ]

    2. Go to the next step.

  16. REPLACE THE REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY (RH). 
    1. Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  17. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM AND VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A COMMON CONNECTOR BETWEEN FOLLOWING TERMINALS 
    • Taillight (RH)/rear side marker light (RH) terminal E38-2 - Power source control (power management control ECU) terminal E3-1

    If there is a common connector: 

    1. Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
    2. Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

    If there is no common connector: 

    1. Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
    1. Go to the next step.

  18. REPAIR OR REPLACE THE CONNECTOR.

  22. REFER TO THE WIRING DIAGRAM AND VERIFY WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A COMMON CONNECTOR BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING TERMINALS 
    • Headlight assembly (LH) terminal A24-2 - Power source control (power management control ECU) terminal A21-5 (With headlight assembly (bulb type))
    • Headlight assembly (LH) terminal A23-2 - Power source control (power management control ECU) terminal A21-5 (With headlight assembly (LED type))

    If there is a common connector: 

    1. Determine the malfunctioning part by inspecting the common connector and the terminal for corrosion, damage, or pin disconnection, and the common wiring harness for a short to ground.
    2. Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

    If there is no common connector: 

    1. Repair or replace the wiring harness which has a short to ground.
    1. Go to the next step.
