DTC B1642/81: Lost Communication with Side Satellite Sensor Bus RH: Procedure

  1. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly, door side airbag sensor RH, side airbag sensor assembly RH and rear airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly, door side airbag sensor RH, side airbag sensor assembly RH and rear airbag sensor RH.
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (OPEN). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 3 

    NG → See step   17 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 4 

    NG → See step   18 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 5 

    NG → See step   19 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 6 

    NG → See step   20 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH CIRCUIT (OPEN) See step   4 

    NG → See step   21 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH CIRCUIT (SHORT) See step   5 

    NG → See step   22 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) See step   6 

    NG → See step   23 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND) See step   7 

    NG → See step   24 

    OK: Go to next step 

  10. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) See step   3 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) See step   4 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) See step   5 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) See step   6 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  14. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag ECU assembly.

    2. Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with door side airbag sensor LH and connect the connectors.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642/81 is output. A
      DTC B1647/82 is output. B
      DTC B1642/81 or B1647/82 are not output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1642/81 and B1647/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the door side airbag sensor RH and door side airbag sensor LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  15. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly RH with side airbag sensor assembly LH and connect the connectors.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTC B1642/81 is output. A
      DTC B1647/82 is output. B
      DTCs B1642/81 and B1647/82 are not output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1642/81 and B1647/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the side airbag sensor assembly RH and side airbag sensor assembly LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  16. CHECK REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Interchange the rear airbag sensor RH with rear airbag sensor LH and connect the connectors.

    2. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in the memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs B1642/81 and B1647/82 are not output. A
      DTC B1642/81 is output. B
      DTC B1647/82 is output C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1642/81 and B1647/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the rear airbag sensor RH and rear airbag sensor LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  17. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 8 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  18. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 9 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  19. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 10 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  20. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 11 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  21. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) See step   9 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  22. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) See step   10 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  23. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) See step   11 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  24. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) See step   12 

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  25. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING 
  26. REPLACE REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  27. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  28. REPLACE DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  29. REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY RH. Refer to  REMOVAL
