DTC B1693/81: Door Side Airbag Sensor RH Initialization Incomplete: Procedure

  1. CHECK HISTORY DTC 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    2. Check for history DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .

      Result

      History DTC B1692/81 is not output.

      HINT: 

      Codes other than history DTCs B1692/81 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    NG → See step   12 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTORS 
    1. Turn the power switch off.
    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly and door side airbag sensor RH.

      OK

      The connectors are properly connected.

      HINT: 

      If the connectors are not connected securely, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly and door side airbag sensor RH.
    5. Check that the terminals of connectors are not damaged.

      OK

      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

    NG → REPLACE WIRE HARNESS 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (OPEN) 
    1. Using a service wire, connect terminals 17 (BBR+) and 18 (BBR-) of connector B.

      NOTE:

      Do not forcibly insert the service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E7-4 (BDR+) - E7-3 (BDR-) Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E7-4 (BDR+) - E7-3 (BDR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Door Side Airbag Sensor RH)

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      E7-4 (BDR+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      E7-3 (BDR-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
    4. Turn the power switch off.
    5. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH CIRCUIT (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E7-4 (BDR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      E7-3 (BDR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

    NG → See step   11 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH 
    1. Connect the connector to the airbag ECU assembly.

    2. Interchange the door side airbag sensor RH with door side airbag sensor LH and connect the connectors.
    3. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
    4. Clear the DTCs stored in memory. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
    5. Turn the power switch off.
    6. Turn the power switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.
    7. Check for DTCs. Refer to DTC CHECK / CLEAR .
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs B1693/81 and B1698/82 are not output. A
      DTC B1698/82 is output. B
      DTC B1693/81 is output. C

      HINT: 

      Codes other than DTCs B1693/81 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    10. Return the door side airbag sensor RH and door side airbag sensor LH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

  8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (OPEN) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

      HINT: 

      The service wire has already been inserted into connector B.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - EG1-2 (BBR-) Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

      *4 Floor Wire
      *5 Service Wire

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  9. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - EG1-2 (BBR-) Always 1 MΩ or higher
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Door Side Airbag Sensor RH
      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly
      *3 Front Door Wire RH
      *4 Floor Wire
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Front Door Wire RH)

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  10. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO B+) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V
      EG1-2 (BBR-) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  11. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire RH.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      EG1-1 (BBR+) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher
      EG1-2 (BBR-) - Body ground Always 1 MΩ or higher

      *3 Front Door Wire RH
      *4 Floor Wire

    NG → REPLACE FLOOR WIRE 

    OK → REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE RH 

  12. GO TO DTC B1692/81. Refer to  DTC B1690/15: Door Side Airbag Sensor RH Malfunction; DTC B1692/81: Lost Communication with Door Side Airbag Sensor RH 
  13. REPLACE DOOR SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  14. REPLACE AIRBAG ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  15. USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING
