DTC P0AE0-228: EV Battery Negative Contactor Control Circuit High: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SMRG STATUS) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / SMRG Status.
    4. Read the Data List.

      OK

      Techstream Display Switch Condition Specified Condition
      SMRG Status Power switch on (IG) OFF
    5. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 1 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY CONNECTOR) See step   5 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

    OK → See step   11 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SMRG VOLTAGE) 
    1. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C21-5 (SMRG) - Body ground Power switch on (IG) Below 1 V

      *a Component with harness connected
      (Power Management Control ECU)
    3. Turn the power switch off.

    NG → See step   6 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR). Refer to  PROCEDURE - Step 1 

    OK → See step   10 

    NG → CONNECT SECURELY 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C21-5 (SMRG) - Body ground Power switch off
      20°C (68°F)
      30.6 to 37.4 Ω

    3. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY WIRES) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Remove the AM2, IG2, RDI and BATT FAN fuses from the No. 1 motor compartment relay block.
    3. Remove the IGCT No. 3 fuses from the No. 2 motor compartment relay block.

    4. Disconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.

    5. Disconnect all the connectors from the power management control ECU.
    6. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      C21-5 (SMRG) - A24-15 (AM21) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C21-5 (SMRG) - A24-6 (MREL) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C21-5 (SMRG) - A24-1 (IG2) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C21-5 (SMRG) - C21-16 (ACCD) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher
      C21-5 (SMRG) - C21-15 (IG1D) Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    7. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    8. Reconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.
    9. Install the IGCT No. 3, AM2, IG2, RDI and BATT FAN fuses.

    OK → See step   10 

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU - ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.

    3. Disconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C21-5 (SMRG) - Gi1-15 Power switch off Below 1 Ω

      Standard Resistance (Check for Short)

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      C21-5 (SMRG)and Gi1-15 - Body ground and other terminals Power switch off 10 kΩ or higher

    5. Reconnect the power management control ECU connector.
    6. Reconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND) 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

    1. Check that the service plug grip is not installed.
      NOTE:

      After removing the service plug grip, do not turn the power switch on (READY), unless instructed by the repair information because this may cause a malfunction.

    2. Disconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      Gi1-40 - Body ground Power switch off Below 1 Ω

    4. Reconnect the electric vehicle battery assembly connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   12 

  10. POWER MANAGEMENT CONTROL ECU MUST BE REPLACED 
    1. Even though it has been determined that the power management control ECU needs to be replaced, make sure to inspect the voltage difference between No. 1 EV battery and No. 2 EV battery before replacing it.

    NEXT → See step   13 

  11. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  12. REPLACE ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY ASSEMBLY. Refer to  COMPONENTS 
  13. GO TO NO. 1 EV BATTERY - NO. 2 EV BATTERY VOLTAGE DIFFERENCE INSPECTION. Refer to  No. 1 EV Battery - No. 2 EV Battery Voltage Difference Inspection
