Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE) 
    1. Connect an intelligent tester or a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.
    3. Operate the intelligent tester or Techstream according to the display and select "ACTIVE TEST" or "Active Test" (See DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST  ).
      1. Intelligent tester

        Body / Combination Meter / ACTIVE TEST: 

        BODY / COMBINATION METER / ACTIVE TEST

        FUEL GAUGE EMPTY / 1/2 / FULL Value selected during ACTIVE TEST is displayed
      2. Techstream

        Body Electrical / Combination Meter / Active Test: 

        BODY ELECTRICAL / COMBINATION METER / ACTIVE TEST

        Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
        Fuel Meter Operation EMPTY / 1/2 / FULL Value selected during Active Test is displayed

        OK: 

        Needle indication is normal. 

    NG : REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (FUEL SENDER GAUGE) 
    1. Connect an intelligent tester or a Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.
    3. Operate the intelligent tester or Techstream according to the display and select "ACTIVE TEST" or "Active Test" (See DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST  ).
      1. Intelligent tester

        Body / Combination Meter / ACTIVE TEST: 

        BODY / COMBINATION METER / ACTIVE TEST

        OK: 

        Fuel value displayed on tester is approximately same as needle indication. 

    NG: Go to step 3 

    OK : REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  3. INSPECT FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    2. Check that the float position is between E and F.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      1 - 2 Float level is F 13.5 to 16.5 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is 1/2 195.3 to 221.3 Ω
      1 - 2 Float level is E 405.5 to 414.5 Ω

    4. Reinstall the fuel sender gauge assembly.

    NG : REPLACE FUEL SENDER GAUGE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (COMBINATION METER - FUEL SENDER GAUGE) 
    1. Disconnect the C37 combination meter assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the H13 fuel sender gauge assembly.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      C37-17 (L) - H13-2 Always Below 1 Ω
      C37-22 (E) - H13-3 Always Below 1 Ω
      C37-24 (ET) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      C37-17 (L) or H13-2 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C37-22 (E) or H13-3 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    4. Reconnect the fuel sender gauge assembly connector.
    5. Reconnect the combination meter assembly connector.

    NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK : REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
