Front Seat Belt With PRETENSIONER: Replacement

HINT:

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  2. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  3. REMOVE REAR SEATBACK ASSY LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  5. REMOVE SIDE NO. 1 TRIM ASSY LH (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  6. REMOVE CENTER PILLAR GARNISH LH (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  7. REMOVE FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSY LH 
    CAUTION:
    • Removal of the seat belt pretensioner must be started at least 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned OFF and after the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    • Carefully read the notices for the pretensioner in the SRS article and the front seat outer belt article (See SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM ).
    1. To disconnect the pretensioner connector: 1) pull out the lock part of the connector as indicated by the black arrow in the illustration, and 2) remove the connector.

    2. Remove the 3 bolts and outer belt.

  8. REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 
    1. Remove the front seat LH (See OVERHAUL ).
    2. Disconnect the 3 connectors and then detach the 5 claws.
    3. Remove the nut and inner belt.
  9. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 
    1. Install the inner belt with the nut.
      1. Torque: 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) 
  10. INSTALL FRONT SEAT OUTER BELT ASSY LH 
    NOTE: Do not disassemble the retractor.
    1. Before installing the ELR, check the ELR.
      1. When the inclination of the retractor is 15Ω or less, check that the belt can be pulled from the retractor. When the inclination of the retractor is over45°, check that the belt locks.

      If operation is not as specified, replace the seat belt assy.

    2. Install the outer belt with the 3 bolts.
      1. Torque: 
      2. 4.9 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 43 in.lbf) for bolt A 
      3. 42 N.m (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) for bolt B 
    3. Install the floor anchor with the bolt (See REPLACEMENT ).

    4. Connect the pretensioner connector as shown in Fig 5 .
    5. After installing the ELR, check the ELR.

      NOTE: The check should be performed with the outer belt installed.
      1. With the belt installed, check that the belt locks when it is pulled out quickly.

      If operation is not as specified, replace the seat belt assy.

    6. Check the fastening function of the child restraint system.
      NOTE: The check should be performed with the outer belt installed.
      1. When the belt is pulled out fully, the belt should automatically try to retract.
      2. After the belt has fully retracted, the belt should be able to be pulled out and retracted again.

      If operation is not as specified, replace the seat belt assy.

  11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 
  13. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP (See  SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM  )
