Front Seat: Overhaul

HINT:

CAUTION: Wear protective gloves. Sharp areas on the seat adjuster can cause injuries to your hands.
  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Work must be started at least 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned LOCK and after the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
    (The SRS is equipped with a backup power source. If work is started within 90 seconds of turning the ignition switch LOCK and after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, the SRS may deploy.)
  2. REMOVE SEAT TRACK BRACKET COVER OUTER LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and remove the bracket cover.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  3. REMOVE SEAT TRACK BRACKET COVER INNER LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the cover.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  4. REMOVE FRONT SEAT HEADREST ASSY 
  5. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSY 
    1. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the rearmost position.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts on the front side of the seat.
    3. Lift up the seat track adjusting handle and move the seat to the foremost position.
    4. Remove the 3 bolts on the rear side of the seat.
    5. Disconnect the connectors under the seat. Then remove the front seat.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
  6. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE VERTICAL SEAT ADJUSTER KNOB LH 

    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the snap ring as shown in Fig 3 . Then remove the knob.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  7. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE VERTICAL ADJUSTING HANDLE NO. 2 

    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the vertical seat adjuster knob cap.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Remove the 2 screws and vertical adjusting handle.

  8. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER RELEASE HANDLE LH 
    1. Raise the reclining adjuster release handle to reveal the claw. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and remove the release handle.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  9. Driver seat: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LH 

    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and clip, and remove the cushion shield.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  10. Passenger seat: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD RH 

    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and clip, and remove the cushion shield.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  11. Driver seat: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 

    1. Remove the nut and belt.
    2. Remove the screw.
    3. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and clip. Then remove the cushion shield inner LH.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Detach the clamps and disconnect the connector. Then remove the belt.

  12. Passenger seat: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY RH 

    1. Remove the nut and belt.
    2. Remove the screw.
    3. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and clip. Then remove the cushion shield inner RH together with the wire harness of the inner belt.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and remove the cushion shield inner RH from the wire harness of the inner belt.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    5. Detach the clamps and disconnect the connector. Then remove the belt.

  13. REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER 
    1. Passenger seat only:

      Disconnect the connector.

    2. Detach the hook and remove the hog rings and seat cushion cover (with pad) from the seat adjuster.
    3. Remove the hog rings and cushion cover from the seat cushion pad.
  14. REMOVE RECLINING REMOTE CONTROL BEZEL 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and remove the reclining adjuster release handle.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws and remove the bezel.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  15. REMOVE FRONT SEATBACK COVER 
    1. Remove the hog rings and hooks.
    2. Roll up the seatback cover.
    3. Detach the 4 claws and remove the 2 headrest supports.

    4. w/ Front seat airbag:

      Remove the nut and detach the hook. Then remove the 2 seatback cover brackets.

    5. Remove the seatback cover (with pad) from the seat adjuster.
    6. Remove the hog rings and remove the seatback cover from the seatback pad.

  16. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (UPPER) 
    1. Remove the screw and inside cover.
  17. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (UPPER) 
    1. Remove the screw and inside cover.
  18. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER LH (LOWER) 
    1. Detach the clamp.
    2. Remove the screw and inside cover.
  19. REMOVE RECLINING ADJUSTER INSIDE COVER RH (LOWER) 
    1. Remove the screw and inside cover.
  20. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER LH 

    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the claws and remove the cushion shield.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  21. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE FRONT SEAT CUSHION SHIELD LOWER RH 

    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the claws and remove the cushion shield.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  22. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE VERTICAL ADJUSTER SPACER 

    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the claws and remove the spacer.

    HINT:

    Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  23. Driver seat only: 

    REMOVE SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR 

    1. Disconnect the wire harness connector.
    2. Detach the claw and remove the seat slide position protector.
    3. Using a T30 Torx socket wrench, remove the Torx bolt and airbag sensor.
  24. Driver seat only: 

    INSTALL SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR 

    1. Install the seat position airbag sensor, but do not fully tighten it yet.
    2. Insert a 1 mm (0.04 in.) feeler gauge between the slide rail and sensor as shown in Fig 14 .

      HINT:

      Make sure that the clearance between the seat position airbag sensor and the slide rail is within 0.6 to 2.0 mm (0.023 to 0.079 in.).

      NOTE:
      • If the seat position airbag sensor has been dropped, or there are any cracks, dents or other defects in the case, bracket or connector, replace the seat position airbag sensor with a new one.
      • When installing the seat position airbag sensor, make sure that the SRS wiring does not interfere with other parts and is not pinched between other parts.
    3. Hold down the top of the sensor and tighten the sensor using a T30 Torx socket wrench.
      1. Torque: 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) 
    4. Remove the feeler gauge.
    5. Install the seat slide position protector.
    6. Connect the wire harness connector.
  25. INSTALL FRONT SEATBACK COVER 
    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the cover.
    • When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.
    1. Using hog ring pliers, install the seatback cover to the seatback pad with new hog rings.
    2. Install the seatback cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster.
    3. Install the 2 headrest supports.

    4. w/ Front seat airbag:

      Fully cover the airbag with the 2 seatback cover brackets. Then attach the hook and tighten the nut.

      1. Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf) 
      NOTE:
      • For vehicles with front seat airbag, the seatback cover must be securely installed. Otherwise, the side airbag may not deploy properly.
      • Make sure that the strap is not twisted after installing the bracket.
      • Install the bracket securely.
    5. Install the seatback cover using hog ring pliers to attach new hog rings and hooks.

  26. INSTALL FRONT SEAT CUSHION COVER 
    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to damage the cover.
    • When installing the hog rings, take care to minimize wrinkles as much as possible.
    1. Using hog ring pliers, install the seat cushion cover to the seat cushion pad with new hog rings.
    2. Using hog ring pliers, install the seat cushion cover (with pad) to the seat adjuster with new hog rings and hooks.
    3. Passenger seat only:

      Connect the connector.

  27. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY LH 
    1. Connect the connector and attach the clamps.
    2. Install the cushion shield inner LH with the screw.
    3. Install the belt with the nut.
      1. Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) 
  28. INSTALL FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSY RH 
    1. Connect the connector and attach the clamps.
    2. Attach the wire harness of the inner belt to the cushion shield inner RH.
    3. Install the cushion shield inner RH (with wire harness) with the screw.
    4. Install the belt with the nut.
      1. Torque: 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) 
  29. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSY 
    1. Place the seat in the cabin.
    2. Connect the connectors under the seat.
    3. Tighten the 5 bolts in the order indicated in Fig 18 .
      1. Torque: 40 N.m (408 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf) 
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

  30. CHECK SEAT SLIDE ADJUSTER LOCKS 
    1. Check that during sliding operation of the front seat, the left and right adjusters move together smoothly and lock simultaneously.

    If the adjusters do not lock simultaneously, loosen the seat fixation bolts to adjust the adjuster's positions.

  31. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
  32. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (See  INITIALIZATION  ) 

    Some systems need initialization when disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

  33. CHECK SRS WARNING LAMP (See  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
