Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC FOR VSC 
    1. Check if the DTCs for VSC are recorded. (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR  )
    1. NO : Go to step 2 
    2. YES : REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE 
  2. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR SECURELY CONNECTED 
    1. NO : CONNECT CONNECTOR TO ECU 
    2. YES : Go to next step. 
  3. INSPECT BATTERY 
    1. Check battery positive voltage.

      Standard: 

      Voltage: 11 to 14 V 

    1. NG: INSPECT CHARGING SYSTEM 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  4. INSPECT SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE (IG1 TERMINAL) 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the DATA LIST mode on the hand-held tester.
    4. Check the voltage condition output from the ECU displayed on the hand-held tester.
      IG VOLTAGE REFERENCE

      Item Measurement Item / Range (Display Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      IG VOLTAGE ECU power supply voltage/NORMAL or TOOL LOW NORMAL: 9.5 V or over
      TOO LOW: Below 9.5 V
      -

      Standard: 

      "NORMAL" is displayed. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU TERMINAL VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      IG1 (S3-46) - GND (S3-1, 32) 11 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      SKID CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      GND (S3-1, 32) - Body ground 1 Ω or less

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  6. CHECK VSC WARNING LIGHT 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3 and start the engine.
    2. Select the item "VSC WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the VSC warning light on the hand-held tester.
    3. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the VSC warning light can be shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.
      VSC WARNING LIGHT REFERENCE

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Check the VSC warning light turns off.

      Standard: 

      VSC warning light turns off.

    1. NG: CHECK AND REPAIR VSC WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT 
    2. OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY  ) 
      NOTE: When replacing the brake actuator assy, perform the zero point calibration (See  CALIBRATION  ).
