Inspection Procedure
HINT:
Start the inspection from step 1 in case of using the hand-held tester and start from step 2 in case of not using the hand-held tester.
- PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY HAND-HELD TESTER (BRAKE WARNING LIGHT)
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester.
- Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light is shown on the combination meter by the hand-held tester.BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT REFERENCE

- NG: Go to step 7
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK DTC FOR ABS
- Check if the DTCs are detected (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
- NO : Go to step 3
- YES : REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- Remove the parking brake switch.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY REFERENCETester Connection Engine Condition Specified condition P-3 - 1 Ground part Released 1 Ω or less Pushed in 10 kΩor higher
- NG: REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY)
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and the parking brake switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition PKB (S3-28) - PKB (P3-1) 1 Ω or less - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition PKB (S3-28) - Body ground 10 kΩor higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH RESISTANCETester Connection Engine Condition Specified condition (B2 - 1) - (B2 - 2) Float UP 10 kΩor higher Float DOWN 1 Ω or less
- NG: REPLACE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR SUB-ASSY
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER)
- Disconnect the combination meter connector and the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition (C6-15) - (B2-1) 1 Ω or less - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition (C6-15) - Body ground 10 kΩor higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER)
- Disconnect the combination meter connector and the skid control connector.
- Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition BRL (S3-44) - C6(14) 1 Ω or less - Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard:
SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER RESISTANCETester Connection Specified Condition BRL (S3-44) - Body ground 10 kΩor higher
- NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
- OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY
) NOTE: When replacing the brake actuator assy, perform the zero point calibration (See CALIBRATION ).
