Installation Procedure

    NOTE: Install the seal onto the tool before installing into the case to prevent damage to the seal.
  1. Using J 44765  (2) install the new transmission case extension seal (1). See Special Tools .

  3. Install a NEW drive flange O-ring seal (3) into the drive flange.
  4. Install the drive flange (2) to the transmission output shaft.
  5. Install a NEW drive flange thrust washer (4).
  6. Apply threadlocker to the NEW drive flange nut threads. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the recommended material.
  7. Install the J-08614-A  to the drive flange.
  8. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  9. While holding J-08614-A  Install a NEW drive flange nut (5) using J 29873  . Tighten the nut to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
  10. Remove J-08614-A  from the drive flange.
  11. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic) .

  13. Place the transmission in the park position by rotating the shift shaft fully counterclockwise.
  14. Connect the shift linkage (2) to the transmission.
  15. Install the transmission manual shift shaft nut (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  16. Install the transmission mount. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  17. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check .
  18. Lower the vehicle.
