Removal Procedure

- Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement .
- Install the jack stands to the frame.
- Loosen the left frame bolts and remove the right side frame bolts. Refer to Front Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
- Using the jack stands, lower the right side of the frame to access the crankshaft balancer.
- Remove the torque converter cover. Refer to Torque Converter Cover Replacement for the 4T65-E Automatic Transaxle.
- Install the J 43442 to the flywheel to prevent flywheel rotation. See Special Tools .
- Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and the washer.
- Remove the crankshaft balancer. Use the J 41816 . See Special Tools .
NOTE:
The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.
