Rear Brake Drums: Installation
NOTE:
When replacing rear brake shoes, inspect backing plate for excessive wear at 6 raised shoe contact pads. Excessive wear at raised shoe contact pads, such as notches or deep groves, could impede shoe travel. Never replace brake pads on one side of axle only. Left and right side brake pads must be replaced only as axle sets.
- Adjust drum brakes. See BRAKE DRUM
- Install brake drum.
- Install brake drum retaining fastener. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install rear wheels. Tighten lug nuts to specification.
- Apply brakes about 3 times in order to seat brake shoes against the drum.
- Lower vehicle.
