Soft top sequences, opening the soft top, sensor inputs

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Saab 9-3 and 2010 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The illustrations and the hydraulic circuit diagram describe the movements of the soft top during raising and retracting. The tables describe the status of the position sensors with respect to each movement sequence. The outputs are marked in italics  and the inputs are underlined in the table headings. For changes of status, the read values are marked in bold. 

Supervision time. Each of the movements (soft top, bow and cover) has a maximum allowed time (supervision time). STC controls each of the movements so that none of them exceed their respective supervision times. If the time is exceeded, the hydraulic system will immediately switch to stop mode. Automatic operation can be restarted by releasing the button "Close soft top" or "Open soft top" and then pressing the relevant button again.

The diagnostic tool can be used to read the status of each position sensor.

Description of position sensor status:

  1. Status of position sensors prior to activation when the soft top is closed.

  2. Step 1, unlocking and opening of sixth bow. 

    When activating the soft top button, the control module performs the following:

    POSITION SENSOR WITH STATUS

    Position sensor Status 1a Status 1b Status 1c
    Pump left, solenoid valve 2 and 3 (raise bow) until Sixth bow locked, right/left is "Off". Supervision time is 4 sec. Pump left, solenoid valve 2 and 3 (raise bow) until switch Sixth bow up "On".
    Supervision time is 4 sec.    		 Pump left, solenoid valve 2 and 3 (raise bow) until soft top storage down, switch "Off".
    Supervision time is 2 sec.
    First bow ready to be locked On On On
    First bow locked On On On
    Soft top cover locked left On On On
    Soft top cover locked right On On On
    Soft top cover up Off Off Off
    Sixth bow up Off On  On

  3. Step 2, releasing first bow and opening soft top cover.

    POSITION SENSOR WITH STATUS

    Position sensor Status 2a Status 2b
    Pump left, solenoid valve 1, 2 and 3 (raise soft top/lock front catch) until First bow ready to be locked and First bow locked is "Off" and Soft top cover locked, left/right is "Off"
    Monitoring time is 10 sec. + 4 sec.    		 Pump left, solenoid valve 1, 2 and 3 (raise soft top/release front catch) until switch Soft top cover raised is "On"
    Supervision time is 10 sec.
    First bow ready to be locked Off  Off

    Soft top cover locked left Off  Off
    Soft top cover locked right Off  Off

  4. Step 3, sixth bow, intermediate position.

    Pump right, solenoid valve 1 and 3 (lower bow) until switch "Sixth bow raised" is "Off"
    Supervision time is 3 sec.
    First bow ready to be locked Off

    Sixth bow up Off

  5. Step 4, lowering the soft top.

    Pump left and solenoid valve 2 (lower soft top/lock front catch) until Soft top cover raised is "Off"
