Removing Rear Side Member

Information 

  1. Mark and make cut -A-  on the inner side member.

    > Distance approx. 14 mm

    Separation points

  2. Mark and make cut -B-  on the door sill reinforcement.

  3. Drill out spotwelds > Spotwelds.

  4. Remove door sill reinforcement.
  5. Disconnect connection points.
    1. 5.1  Unscrew self-tapping screws -1-  .

    2. 5.2  Unscrew and remove screws -2-  .

      Information 

      • Tapping with a hammer will break the thread in the cast component. As a result, the self-tapping screws in the inner side member will fall down. 
    3. 5.3  Use a hammer to tap against the tips of the self-tapping screws -1-  .

    4. 5.4  Tap self-tapping screws through.
    5. 5.5  Remove all self-tapping screws -1-  from the inner side member using a magnet.

    6. 5.6  Remove punch rivets using > VAS 852 001 - body dent removal system, aluminum  and > VAS 6790 - compact booster  .
