Replacing Air Conditioning Control Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: Voltage drop 
  • Irreparable damage to control unit 
  • Damage to control unit 
  • Fault entries in the control unit 
  • Control unit programming/coding is aborted 
  • Malfunctions in the control unit, even during programming/coding 

    → Switch off ignition before disconnecting the control unit.

    → Make sure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming/coding.

    → Connect the battery charger with at least > current 90 A  to the vehicle battery.

Information 

The PIWIS Tester  instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.

The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester  .

  1. Set air conditioning to A/C max.
  2. Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
  3. Select the vehicle type if required.
  4. Select the Air conditioning  control unit in the overview  . Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
  5. Coding/programming must  be selected.
  6. Automatic coding  must now be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  7. Maintenance/repairs  must now be selected.
  8. Teach and check flap servo motors  must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
  9. Does not apply to Hybrid: 
    1. 9.1 Air-conditioning compressor run-in  must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
    2. 9.2 Read and follow the information and instructions displayed on the Tester. Press F12 to continue. Read and follow the instructions and information displayed on the Tester and press F8 to start. Perform procedure according to menu guidance.
    3. 9.3 If the compressor procedure cannot be carried out, Reset: Air-conditioning compressor run-in  must be performed.
      1. 9.3.1 Drive links/checks  must be selected.
      2. 9.3.2 Select Air-conditioning compressor. 
      3. 9.3.3 Reset: Air-conditioning compressor run-in  must be selected. Press F12 to continue and then press F8 to start.
    4. 9.4 Then perform Air-conditioning compressor run-in  again.
  10. Teach potentiometer for front side air vents.
    1. 10.1 Turn left/right air flow adjustment for each front side air vent to both stops once.
  11. Read out fault memory and erase it if necessary.
  12. Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
