Draining Coolant

  • Danger of scalding 

    → Avoid contact with hot fluid.

    → Wear personal protective gear.

Information 

  1. Carefully open the coolant reservoir cap -1-  .

  2. Move service clip -2-  on the bleeder valve -3-  to a vertical position.

  3. Have a drip pan ready under the radiator.
  4. Loosen spring clamp -4-  and disconnect coolant hose -5-  on the radiator.

  5. Disconnect coolant hoses for heating -1 and 2-  on the transmission.
    1. 5.1 Screw in adapter KS 65 from > VAS 6562 - Porsche Adapter Set for Cooling System Tester  on the coolant reservoir.
    2. 5.2 Open clamp on the right coolant hose (return) -2-  and pull off coolant hose. Collect emerging coolant.
    3. 5.3 Build up air pressure of max. 1 bar  via the adapter using > V.A.G 1274B - Tester for Cooling System  or compressed air hose and collect remaining coolant.
    4. 5.4 Release air pressure.
    5. 5.5 Re-fit coolant hose and secure with a spring band clamp.
    6. 5.6 Open clamp on the left coolant hose (supply) -1-  and disconnect coolant hose. Collect emerging coolant.
    7. 5.7 Build up air pressure of max. 1 bar again and collect emerging coolant.
    8. 5.8 Release air pressure.
    9. 5.9 Re-fit coolant hose and secure with a spring band clamp.

  6. If necessary, remove remaining coolant from the coolant reservoir by pulling off the coolant hose.
    1. 6.1 Open clamp -11-  using > VAS 6890 - Spring Band Clamp Pliers  and pull coolant hose -12-  off the coolant reservoir.
    2. 6.2 Collect emerging coolant.

    Information 

    • On vehicles with auxiliary heating, there are additional drain points. 
  7. On vehicles with auxiliary heating: Disconnect coolant hoses. 
    1. 7.1 Loosen clamps -6-  , disconnect coolant hoses -7-  and collect emerging coolant.

  8. Secure coolant hoses.
